Fiat will end the sales of all non-electrified vehicles in the UK from July 1, it has revealed.
The Stellantis-owned Italian car brand will make the move three months after it completed the electrification of its full model range with the arrival of new versions of its 500X crossover and Tipo hatchback.
AM reported today (May 30) that the Fiat 500 hatchback was Europe’s best-selling electric vehicle (EV) in April, helping to propel Stellantis to top spot in the EV sales stakes.
Commenting on the latest stage of Fiat’s commitment to electrification in its UK model line-up, Fiat and Abarth UK managing director Greg Taylor said: “This step in Fiat’s history marks a pivotal point in our commitment to providing affordable and sustainable mobility solutions for all of our customers.
“The move lends itself to our vehicles which are suited to urban areas, spearheaded by the popularity of the New 500.”
The new Fiat 500 EV offers customers 24kWh or 42kWh battery options, that latter giving a maximum driving range of up to 199 miles (WLTP).
Elsewhere in the range, the second-generation 500 remains on sales, alongside the Panda, both of which have seen their 1.2-litre petrol engines replaced by a new 1.0-litre unit mated to a 12-volt mild hybrid system.
The 500X Hybrid and Tipo Hybrid are also mild hybrid vehicles, mating a 1.5-litre petrol engine to a 48-volt starter generator and 15kW battery pack.
