Eyes down for an EGR Award: Bingo, Poker and other gaming wins

Date:

The elite of the online gaming and gambling industry gathered together (albeit virtually) on 30th June 2021, to celebrate their innovation and creativity. That’s right — the eGaming Review (EGR) Marketing & Innovation Awards well and truly arrived, with all the glitz and glam you would expect, and the impressive nominations to match.

The night was hosted by none other than Matt Richardson, the award-winning comedian, and there were plenty of notable winners who ticked all the boxes to bag their award. Whether that was the development and marketing of playing online Bingo or the latest and greatest in app technology, a whole range of sectors were recognised at this year’s ceremony. So, if you want to get all the lowdown of the EGR Awards2021, then read on as we explain the top winners of the night!

Awards for Poker

There were two awards up for grabs on the night for the Poker sector: ‘Innovation in Poker’ and ‘Poker Marketing Campaign’. The first was won by PokerStars, an online Poker room owned by The Stars Group. They were commended particularly for their pioneering feats in virtual reality (VR) technology, which has been making its way into the casino scene and enhancing the immersive experience.

The 2021 judges feedback commented on the Poker site’s commitment, investment and resources that they’ve put towards innovation, adding:

“PokerStars continues to explore new possibilities across the Poker landscape with mobile first, VR and new features such as animations.”

The marketing efforts of Poker operators were also recognised in the ‘Poker Marketing Campaign’ category. This year it was 888poker who walked away with the prestigious award, with their hugely impactful campaign.

They were complimented by the judges for their use of influencers and TV adverts, that were noted as “well-designed and targeted.” They particularly hit the criteria for a winning campaign, through the fact that the judges could see the results and success in the 888 app download rates.

Award for Bingo

Bingo is a firm favourite amongst avid casino players, and so everyone was sure to go BALListic for the ‘Bingo Marketing Campaign’ award. The category saw some pretty hefty contenders with the likes of Foxy Bingo and Paddy Power Bingo, who had come up with an imaginative campaign featuring drag queens, Bingo balls and the grand prize of a MINI Cooper car.

But it was PlayOJO that walked away with the award that night, who were praised for taking the time to understand their audience, and tailor their campaign to push the right buttons. The judges commented:

“A creative & media-worthy PR campaign which ultimately delivered hard numbers to the bottom line, which is not the norm for a campaign of this nature… Textbook example of a challenger brand in action.”

Award for Horseracing

The horseracing sector has certainly seen some innovation over the past year, and it was Betsson Group that came out on top in this year’s EGR Awards, with their horseracing brand Racebets. The category ‘Innovation in Horseracing’ was rewarded to the operator that showed the most innovative use of product, marketing and technology, and was scored on its commercial success, business growth, originality and impact on the customer.

The judges thought that Betsson Group’s Racebets was an “excellent product.”
They added:

“Racebets is developing nicely and has some good features. Being horse racing focused the experience is well tailored allowing customers to track horses.”

The Betsson group went on to win four other awards that evening, including:

  • Best native app
  • Innovation in mobile and tablet
  • Mobile marketing campaign
  • Social marketing campaign

With creativity at the forefront of each nominee, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the EGR Awards and who will be next year’s winners.
