Ex-OG Seed roster completely dissolves after split from OG

OG Seed is no more.

After being officially released by the organization, multiple members of the OG Seed roster have announced that the team is dissolving entirely. The team initially expressed a desire to remain together, but later opted to break up.

“Some sad news. We have decided to part ways with OG.Seed roster, we were just planning to come from our break and get back into Dota, but some of our players got offers, we had a talk as team and decided it’s better to part ways,” OG Seed captain Petu “Peksu” Vaatainen said on Twitter.

Peksu then went into the team’s history, which was defined by bad luck.

While OG Seed’s lineup was loaded with veteran talent, the team competed in a dense European region that required the team to beat several of the world’s best in order to qualify for any notable tournaments. Despite that huge hurdle, OG Seed found opportunities to shine competitively, most notably taking second place at Dota Summit 12 where the team defeated the likes of Team Liquid and Evil Geniuses.

The transition to online leagues burned the team badly, however.

OG Seed breaks up after online struggles

Despite having the look of a legitimate up-and-comer, OG Seed support player Zakari “Zfreek” Freedman was forced to stay in North America as travel restrictions went into effect. This prevented the team from effectively practicing with one another, and left Zfreek contending with both the actual competition and an extreme 150 ping.

Making matters worse was the team being precluded from tournaments due to conflict of interest concerns. Once the primary OG roster began competing more regularly, OG Seed was barred from playing in the same events as their sister team, something that forced the roster to split away from its sponsor.

That combination of missed opportunities and logistical difficulties proved to be too much for OG Seed, resulting in the team’s dissolution.

What comes next for the individual players is uncertain. OG Seed’s disbandment leaves the following players as free agents:

  1. Omar Mohammad “Madara” Dabachach
  2. Rasmus “Chessie” Blomdin
  3. Andreas Per “Xibbe” Ragnemalm
  4. Zakari “Zfreek” Freedman
  5. Petu “Peksu” Vaatainen

With the exception of Peksu, who said that he plans on taking a break from competition, each member of the roster faces an uncertain but potentially bright future. Chessie stated that “better offers came for various players,” which could be a reference to almost anyone, anywhere.

Off laner Xibbe is likely the hottest commodity, followed by Madara. Both players could be added to established teams that have been posting underwhelming results, or they could end up forming a new team with various other free agents. Zfreek could easily find a new landing spot as well, as numerous North American teams have been playing with substitutes and stand-ins.
