Evil Geniuses defeated The Cut while Quincy Crew made short work of Simply TOOBASED as the top two teams in NA got off to a dominant start in season 2.

Season 2 of the DPC Leagues just got done with its first week of action, which was also the first bit of competitive action on the 7.29 patch for the community to see. The week ended with the North American DPC League, and the last two games in the NA Upper Division were the top two teams of Season 1 taking on the two teams which had made it to the Upper Division through promotion in the Lower Division. Evil Geniuses faced The Cut, who came in second place in the Lower Division in Season 1 while Quincy Crew took on the Lower Division winners, Simply TOOBASED. There weren’t any fairy tale endings to either of the two series, with EG and QC both winning 2-0.

Evil Geniuses vs The Cut

Evil Geniuses went for a greedy draft in game 1, picking Morphling and Medusa as their cores. But instead of taking the game late, the runners up of the Singapore Major dominated their lanes and ended the game in a little over 17 minutes.

The second game was more of a contest, but EG came out on top eventually. The two heroes to watch out for in this game were Artour “Arteezy” Babaev’s carry Tiny and Andreas “Cr1t” Nielsen’s support Pudge. While there wasn’t a lot to talk about Arteezy’s Tiny, Crit’s Pudge was the standout hero of the game, making a case for banning it against EG and probably plant the idea in the heads of other teams that the hero is a good one this patch. Crit has been spamming position 4 Pudge in high level NA pubs, which showed in the game today. Pudge’s new Aghanim’s Shard can be a very useful tool to help out allies, which Crit did multiple times in the game, saving teammates from Legion Commander’s Duels by casting Dismember on them and carrying them away to safety. Pudge is a hero that doesn’t see too much play in professional games, but if Crit’s display of the hero is anything to go by, that might change this meta.

Quincy Crew vs Simply TOOBASED

Simply TOOBASED were the perfect team in Season 1 of the NA DPC League, going 7-0 in the Lower Division. They continued their winning streak in the Upper Division with a win over Black and Yellow, but Quincy Crew was the real test. As it turns out, it wasn’t really too much of a test for Quincy Crew. They took the first game in a little over 34 minutes and the second in a little over 23 minutes. Quincy Crew captain Avery “LoA” Silverman was on the Warlock in both games, a hero who has quickly risen through the ranks to become of the most contested supports of the new meta.

Both series combined (all four games) lasted less than 110 minutes. While neither of the top two teams were expected to lose, it is evident they have shoved their Singapore Major losses to the back of their heads and are looking to recreate the dominant performances from Season 1 of the NA DPC League. The teams that can potentially dethrone these two juggernauts of NA Dota 2 are Undying and 4Zoomers. But the question is, will they be able to usurp one of the two DPC Major spots from them?
