Everything you missed at State of Play March 2022

Date:

March 2022’s State of Play was subdued but not uneventful. There was a smattering of announcements concerning Japanese titles, and we even got to see two new Square Enix games announced. While there was nothing earthshattering, the titles on display were diverse enough that everyone should have found something to love.

Here’s a breakdown of Sony’s March 2022 State of Play:

Exoprimal tricks everyone into thinking there’s a new Dino Crisis at State of Play

When we saw Capcom and dinosaurs, we started getting excited. However, it turned out to be a new IP. Exoprimal is focused on co-op multiplayer, and we’d be shocked if it isn’t a live service. Seems like Dino Crisis fans got snubbed again.

Ghostwire Tokyo gets a small trailer

Ghostwire Tokyo looks like it’s shaping up great, and we’re pumped to play it later this month.

Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin demo lets you carry over progress

The third demo of Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origins will let players carry any progress they make over to the final game. There’s not too long to wait for the full thing since it comes out on March 18, 2022.

Forspoken gets a new trailer showing a more diverse color palette

Forspoken just got delayed a second time, but at least we got a trailer. It looks a lot more colorful and vibrant than it used to, and that’s a good thing.

Gundam Evolution trailer gives an interesting peek at the game

There’s only been a few first-person Gundam games, so we were skeptical of Gundam Evolution. However, it looks like it might be fun, and it’s free-to-play, so there’s no risk to try it.

TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection brings classic titles to modern consoles

TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection brings 13 8 and 16-bit titles to modern platforms. The turtles aren’t really my thing, but I’m sure some people were pumped for this.

GigaBash brings multiplayer monster mayhem to PS4 and PS5 soon

This multiplayer game challenges four players to whoop each other using 10 different Kaiju. It definitely has some big Rampage energy going on, and couch co-op is a focus, which is rare these days.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R remaster has us seeing Joestars

ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA! ORA!

Trek to Yomi channels Kurosawa with a touch of the supernatural added

Kurosawa is loved the world over, and Trek To Yomi definitely channels his style but also includes some Shinto mythology. It looks like it’ll be a stylistic celebration of Japanese folklore and culture, and we’re pumped to play it.

Returnal: Ascension 3.0 update brings campaign co-op and Tower of Sisyphus mode

Returnal arguably took the roguelike into the mainstream and made us fall in love with its ruthless gameplay and progression system. However, things can be a little easier for those who play in the future. When the 3.0 update releases, you’ll be able to play the campaign with a friend. There’ll also be a new location to explore: the Tower of Sisyphus. This new structure contains the game’s endless mode. Not only does it contain a new, more arcade-focused experience, it also holds some new narrative content.

The DioField Chronicle is a new tactical RPG from Square Enix

Expect convoluted politics and a new real-time battle system here.

Valkyrie Elysium brings back the iconic Tri-Ace series

Ragnarok is coming, and only the Valkyrie can stop it. But, will she want to?
