European Wellness Advances Clinical Trials on Precursor Stem Cells for Fertility and Immunology into China

Published

on

In a virtual signing session via Zoom Meeting, the Sino-European alliance agreed to enter into a strategic venture involving European Wellness’ proprietary precursor (progenitor) stem cells and biological peptides at Li Hua Biotechnology’s CGTP research facility and Hunan’s Xiangtan Central Hospital, the first large-scale national first-class general hospital in Xiangtan City. This multi-phase alliance ultimately aims to create best-in-class modern cell therapeutics that are made accessible to the local community in China.

Li Hua Biotechnology was represented by Director Prof. Dr. Tham Xiao Jun, while European Wellness was represented by Group Chairman Prof. Dr. Mike Chan during the June 11th MOU signing.

The partnership manifests European Wellness’ efforts to propel the development of its proprietary patent-pending precursor stem cell therapeutics, which presently is in the early stage of multi-centric clinical development across USA, Greece and Japan led by European Wellness’ international scientific committee which constitutes world-class researchers with profound scientific pedigree including Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Southern California, University of California-Irvine, Oxford University, Cambridge University and Germany’s renowned Heidelberg University, where safety and toxicity studies, and further research studies are undergoing.

The later phase of the strategic venture focalizes on providing education to researchers and local medical practitioners in China, particularly in the specialised subject of bio-regenerative science as well as clinical protocols and best practices in stem cell transplantation.

National Bureau of Statistics of China revealed that China’s birthrate has drastically decline in recent years with only 12 million babies born last year compared to the 18 million born in 2016 (the lowest number of births recorded by China since the 1960s).

“Although in-vitro fertilization (IVF) is a popular option among Chinese couples, it may not always work. The likelihood of IVF success deteriorates after the age of 35,” said Prof. Dr. Mike Chan.

“This is where organ-specific precursor stem cell therapy may be of service as it targets the regeneration of specific organs linked with the pathophysiology of infertility. This is achieved through non-invasive transplantation of a variety of precursor stem cells originating from the pituitary, adrenal gland, liver and the gonads.”

His sentiments were shared by Prof. Tham, China’s renowned gynaecologist with specialisation in IVF and a prominent stem cell scientist since 2005, who believed that this alliance signifies the convergence of great intellects from the East and West in this emerging scientific sphere.

“With China’s three-child policy announced in May 2021 to address the ageing population problem, European Wellness as a pioneer and leader in stem cell therapeutics is indeed a worthy partner to collaborate with and address the escalating demand for non-invasive fertility therapy in China.”

Petco Love and Kat Albrecht-Thiessen Introduce Preventative Tips to Stop the Annual July Influx of Lost Pets into Shelters and New Technology to Reunite Lost Pets

Published

on

One in three pets will go missing in their lifetime, and more pets go missing July 4-6 than any other time of the year. July 5th will be one of the busiest days of the year for animal shelters. Yet, a recent survey* of pet parents found that more than half are unsure of the steps to take or the resources available to find their pet.

“At Petco Love, we believe nothing is more important than keeping people and pets together for a lifetime of love. That is why we launched Petco Love Lost, a single national platform that connects shelters, pet parents, and good neighbors together,” said Petco Love President, Susanne Kogut. “Our goal is to reunite more pets with their families with this free, simple-to-use tool accessible to all pet parents, or anyone who finds a lost dog or cat, should the unthinkable happen.”

Petco Love Lost which launched last April, with the support of more than 1,000 industry partners, received positive initial user feedback with 96% of those surveyed recommending the tool1. This new national database powered by pet facial recognition search technology scans through thousands of found pets with a single photo in less than a minute. Pet parents can receive real-time notifications of new possible matches should the initial search not locate their pet. Additionally, Petco Love recommends conducting a physical search of your immediate area, as data collected from Petco Love Lost users found 66% of pets are found within one mile of their home2, and nearly 13% of users reported it took more than a week to locate their lost pet.3

Simple preventative steps can be critical to keeping pets home where they belong. Petco Love and Kat Albrecht-Thiessen share five ways to keep pets safe this 4th of July:

  • Protect your pet before and after the holiday: When panicked by fireworks and other loud noises, dogs run, and cats hide. Early fireworks celebrations and leftover fireworks catch many pet parents off guard, so be prepared to protect your pet a week before and after the holiday.
  • Keep your pet secure: Think about your pet’s behavior as you decide to attend holiday celebrations or leave them safe at home. To keep your pet safe indoors, crate them or place them somewhere comfortable and turn on a TV or stereo to drown out loud noises. If you’re outdoors, properly leash your dog. Loop the leash around your shoulder so that your dog is still attached to you if you trip or fall.
  • Check your yard and home: Ensure your yard and home are secure and your pet cannot escape when panicked. If you’ve recently brought a new pet home and have not yet experienced fireworks together, be cautious that they may react negatively. Make sure your yard’s fence is sturdy with no loose boards, nothing your dog could climb and jump over, or dig and crawl under, and that window screens and exterior doors to your home are securely in place.
  • Keep your pet’s ID tag and microchip up to date: Microchip your pet and ensure your contact information is registered and up to date. Make sure your pet has a properly fitted collar with a current ID tag. This goes for cats too! If your cat does not wear a collar and tag, try a temporary paper tag.
  • Register your pet on Petco Love Lost: Upload your pet’s photo to Petco Love Lost, a free national lost and found database. If they go missing, one click will allow you to quickly search thousands of found pets from animal shelters and individuals using patented pet facial recognition technology, and it’s also available in Spanish.

Beijing to equip all its key Winter Olympics areas with accessible facilities

Published

on

BEIJING, June 29, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — A report from China.org.cn:

Beijing will equip all its key Winter Olympics areas with accessible facilities within this year, according to municipal officials.

The renovation this year will be carried out at a total of 34,089 spots in three key areas, including those surrounding the Winter Olympic venues, the municipality’s sub-center, and the central urban area within the Fourth Ring Road. It involves four major sectors, roads, public transportation, public service spaces, and information exchange.

So far, 19,523 spots (57.27%) have been renovated. The municipality’s Dongcheng district already has 100 public service spots designated as exemplary accessible facility spaces. Among all the district’s 1,241 public lavatories, 169 were upgraded in 2020, and 154 were renovated in 2021 for better accessibility.

The renovation focuses on fine adjustment rather than reconstruction, with each lavatory upgraded according to local conditions, said Dong Ning, deputy director of the district’s environment and sanitary service center.

U.S. News and Aetna Foundation Release 2021 Healthiest Communities Rankings

Published

on

In the 2021 rankings, the top five Healthiest Communities score above the national average in at least eight of the 10 categories used in the analysis, including Los Alamos County, New Mexico – the first community to repeat as No. 1 since the launch of the Healthiest Communities rankings in 2018. In the 2021 rankings, the County posted its highest scores in the Housing, Population Health and Infrastructure categories. Douglas County, Colorado, came in at No. 2, followed by Falls Church, Virginia, at No. 3. Loudoun County, Virginia, moved to No. 4, and Broomfield County, Colorado, rounded out the list at No. 5.

“The coronavirus pandemic has inflicted deep wounds on multiple aspects of a community’s well-being – from which it will take time to recover. A county’s population health metrics, including mental health, health outcomes and access to care, have been adversely affected, along with major hits to education, economy and equity,” said Kim Castro, editor and chief content officer at U.S. News. “This year’s Healthiest Communities rankings name not only the leading counties in the country, but also produce data reflecting other predictors of individual and community health as the country begins to recover.”

The 2021 rankings are accompanied by editorial pieces exploring, for example, connections between community vaccine data and other health-related metrics. The U.S. News editorial team also examines issues of equity around Hennepin County, Minnesota – a top 500 county that was the site of George Floyd’s murder by a police officer in May 2020 – and of mental health in Hawaii, where Honolulu County posted the country’s highest score in that subcategory of the rankings.

“Over the past year and a half, the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated several issues that we knew existed within the health care system, including the interdependence between the health of our communities and our personal health.” said Karen Lynch, president and chief executive officer of CVS Health Corporation. “While our country appears to be turning a corner on the pandemic, with more people getting vaccinated everyday, we understand that there is a lot of important work that still needs to be done to address the underlying community health issues that were brought to the forefront during the pandemic.”

Separate from the rankings, the COVID-19 tools, which track case numbers, death rates, unemployment and more, have been updated to include vaccine data. These tools complement the rankings data to highlight the relationship between the coronavirus pandemic and community health. Based on a U.S. News analysis, counties that performed well in the Healthiest Communities rankings have slightly lower COVID-19 case rates than average.

Some other key findings from the 2021 Healthiest Communities Rankings include:

  • Overall, Iowa counties are most heavily represented in the top 500, with 61 counties in the state making the list.
  • No. 1 Los Alamos County had the 17th-lowest COVID-19 case rate overall out of places included in the Healthiest Communities analysis, with 2,731 cases per 100,000 residents over the course of the pandemic as of May 31, 2021.
  • Counties with more educated and higher-earning populations tended to perform better on mental health measures included in the Healthiest Communities analysis.

The Healthiest Communities rankings, underwritten by the Aetna Foundation, are part of a $100 million commitment by CVS Health and its affiliates to making community health and wellness central to the company’s charge for a better world. The Building Healthier Communities initiative, which will be funded over five years by CVS Health and the CVS Health and Aetna foundations, builds upon the outstanding tradition of community investment by CVS Health and Aetna and advances CVS Health’s purpose of helping people on their path to better health.

The Healthiest Communities rankings and accompanying analysis are based on an evaluation of approximately 3,000 communities nationwide across 84 health and health-related metrics in 10 categories, from Education and Population Health to Infrastructure and Environment. The project serves as a tool to inform residents, community health leaders and elected officials about policies and best practices for better health outcomes by assessing which communities offer their citizens the greatest opportunity to live a productive, healthy life.

To compile the rankings and create the overall Healthiest Communities project, U.S. News partnered with the University of Missouri Center for Applied Research and Engagement Systems (CARES), a research institution skilled in community health assessment. Overall, the rankings are based on metrics drawn from sources such as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Much of the data used to compile the 2021 Healthiest Communities rankings came from periods predating the COVID-19 pandemic and would not have been affected by the pandemic’s impact on communities.

The Healthiest Communities rankings are the centerpiece of a platform featuring in-depth reporting and analysis on community and public health issues, as well as comprehensive data covering the full spectrum of factors that influence population health. Healthiest Communities is part of U.S. News’ Government Rankings initiative, which measures government performance at the international, state and local levels and includes the Best States, Best Countries, and Cities projects.

As a part of the 2021 Healthiest Communities rankings, U.S. News will be hosting the second annual  Community Health Leadership Forum webinar series. Themes will cover lessons learned amid the COVID-19 pandemic, equitable vaccine distribution and addressing disparities in maternal health. The first webinar, featuring CVS Health President and CEO Karen Lynch, will be on July 1 and sessions will continue through the summer. Register here.
