Date:

The Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) has opened an investigation into HUNDEN‘s claims that players in Heroic were aware of the coaching bug abuse after receiving evidence from the team’s former coach.

“On 4 September 2021, Mr. Petersen sent ESIC information which he alleges provides evidence that the players who were playing for Heroic at the time of Mr. Petersen’s exploitation of the spectator bug were complicit in his exploits,” ESIC explains in the latest entry to their Open Investigations Register.

“Despite the fact that this allegation is contrary to previous public statements Mr. Petersen has made, ESIC has opened a formal investigation into the matter.” ESIC didn’t reveal additional details about how the investigation will progress, only stating that they will “make further comment on the investigation in due course.”

HUNDEN implicated his former teammates in the coaching bug abuse in an interview at the end of August, but the two parts of evidence he provided to back up his claims were only released on September 3 via TV2.

A part of a conversation between HUNDEN and Nikolaj “niko” Kristensen specifically implicated the current OG player, who was quoted as saying: “Everyone on our team knew it. Maybe not the first time. But after. Everyone knew that.” Meanwhile, René “TeSeS” Madsen was connected to the abuse through server logs that reportedly imply the player helped HUNDEN get into an otherwise unreachable position where he triggered the coaching bug.

Regardless of the process starting, Heroic seem set to compete in the playoffs of ESL Pro League Season 14. As of now, the esports watchdog hasn’t issued any recommendations regarding the Danish team, such as to exclude the team from ESIC-sanctioned tournaments as they did in the Akuma case. ESL are yet to comment on the matter.

The following players were a part of Heroic at the time of the coaching bug incident:

Denmark Casper “cadiaN” Møller
Denmark Martin “stavn” Lund
Denmark René “TeSeS” Madsen
Denmark Nikolaj “niko” Kristensen
Denmark Johannes “b0RUP” Borup

Denmark Nicolai “HUNDEN” Petersen (coach)
