Global IoT connectivity solutions provider Eseye has introduced the IoT Readiness Level (IRL) Index, which aims to assist businesses in evaluating their preparedness for implementing IoT projects.

With the proliferation of IoT technology across various sectors, including smart cities and industrial automation, businesses are faced with the challenge of assessing the maturity of their projects and determining their technical and operational readiness for IoT deployment.

Unfortunately, surveys consistently reveal that a significant number of IoT initiatives (around 80%) fail to reach successful implementation.

Drawing upon its extensive experience in delivering over 1,000 IoT devices and connectivity projects, Eseye has developed a comprehensive assessment framework that encompasses all facets of IoT adoption.

From infrastructure and connectivity to device design and data management, the IRL Index covers every critical aspect of IoT integration. The index is inspired by NASA’s Technology Readiness Level (TRL), which is widely regarded as the benchmark for gauging the maturity of new technologies.

Eseye’s IRL Index provides customers with a personalised assessment of their IoT readiness. By comparing their capabilities against market best practices and similar projects in their industry, organisations gain valuable insights into their current position on a 0 to 9 scale.

Nick Earle, CEO of Eseye, said:

“We recognised that every IoT use case is different, and many were struggling to successfully launch an IoT solution. This was due to particular challenges with their device and project as well as the lack of an objective standard in the sector.

Our IRL Index leverages a set of detailed metrics to provide a customer rating on a 0 to 9 scale, offering an objective assessment of each organisation’s capabilities.”

Following an initial discovery workshop, the results of the assessment enable the creation of a tailored services program designed to accelerate the customer’s journey toward a higher maturity level.

By aligning their capabilities with project goals and anticipated return on investment, businesses can achieve successful IoT implementation while minimising risks and costs.

In addition to the IoT Readiness Framework, Eseye has introduced a subscription-based service called IoT LaunchPad. This flexible offering provides a range of specialised IoT services customised for each customer project, aiming to expedite the deployment of IoT devices while reducing the likelihood of failure.

Eseye says its partnership with medical device firm Biofourmis highlights the company’s expertise and commitment to delivering exceptional results. Eseye helped to redesign Biofourmis’ devices and improve connectivity.

Milan Shah, CTO of Biofourmis, commented:

“What has made our project successful is the sheer level of expertise Eseye brings to the table. It’s an excellent partnership.

There are significant considerations in picking the right partner to help you from design to deployment – and every day we are very thankful for Eseye.”

The IRL Index is now available and Eseye encourages businesses of all sizes to leverage the tool.

Taking proactive measures and evaluating IoT readiness early in a project can help businesses avoid costly rework in the future. As IoT implementations continue to gain prominence, the IRL Index will play an increasingly vital role in ensuring the success of such endeavours.
