Epic Games announce changes for FNCS Chapter 2 Season 6

Date:

Epic Games has released the details of Chapter 2 Season 6 of the Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS). This release comes with changes to the formats and scoring systems. FNCS Chapter 2 Season 6 boasts a $3 million prize pool and starts with the first qualifier on April 22 to 24.

Changes made to FNCS format

Teams that placed first to third in FNCS Chapter 2 Season 5 in their respective regions automatically qualify into the Season 6 finals. This means that these teams cannot participate in the qualifiers or semi-finals. However, players can choose to leave these teams if they want to. All three players must fill the official disband form before the end of April 19.

Aside from these teams, the top three from each qualifier advance directly to the finals. All other teams in each region have to earn series points to advance to semi-finals. So a team that does not place in the top three here, will get series points based on their final placement in that qualifier. After all the qualifiers are finished, each team’s series points will be calculated. Only the top 99 Trios on the series point leaderboard will advance to the semi-finals.

Furthermore, all regions will now have only three heats in the semi-finals instead of the usual four seen last season. All heats will be played on the same day. A team’s seeding depends on their total series points. There will be 6 matches played in each heat for every region with the top 6 trios advancing to the finals.

Epic is expanding the Reboot Round to have at least three matches. The Reboot Round will feature teams that placed seventh to seventeenth in each heat round. Once a team wins any of the three matches, they also advance to the FNCS finals. In addition, regions are allowed to play three more matches if a team with guaranteed a finals invitations disbands.

Although Epic made changes to almost all rounds, the FNCS finals format is still intact. So teams will still have their normal 12 matches across two days to earn points in the various regions.

New Scoring System

Epic has also made an adjustment to the scoring system but only for single lobby rounds. With this change, more points will go to the top and at pivotal periods of a match. Therefore, more points will be awarded to teams that make it past Storm Surge thresholds. Teams from sixteenth to first place will receive incremental points.  The team with the Victory Royale earns 30 points and each elimination gives two points.

The FNCS Chapter 2 Season 6 starts on April 22 and will end on May 30. After this tournament ends, the FNCS All-Star Showdown will take place from June 23 to 26.
