Dallas, Texas-based esports and gaming entertainment company Envy Gaming announced Tuesday that it will be launching The Envy Foundation, a 501(c)(3) entity whose mission it is to educate and provide resources for North Texas middle and high schools. The Envy Foundation will aim to “bring people together through initiatives and programming that leverage the universal culture of gaming.”
To start, the foundation will focus on four particular areas including the development of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) initiatives at the middle and high school levels, bettering gamer health, delivering joy to children receiving medical care, and improving lives of those that call the North Texas area as a hometown.
Also, an annual grant program will be instituted and administered by the foundation that will give North Texas middle schools and high schools a place where schools can apply for funding, gaming hardware, and ongoing education curriculum that provides information on how to grow an extracurricular esports program.
Grant applications and more details will be available later this spring at envyfoundation.org.
Many middle and high schools across the country have turned to esports as an alternative way of creating competitive and social programs to keep students engaged as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, esports have become so popular that high school sports governing bodies such as the California Interscholastic Federation have partnered with outside organizations such as PlayVS, who specialize in running esports events for high schoolers, to facilitate the need.
Envy will seek out the help of its partners, Acer and Predator, and others, in order to help get the foundation off the ground and running. Additionally, there will be initiatives where the online gaming community as a whole can step up and help.
