Elden Ring Speedrun World Record Seemingly Broken Twice in a Day

Date:

The Elden Ring world record speedrun was seemingly broken twice in one day, with both times clocking in at less than one hour.

YouTube user LilAggy published his speedrun yesterday, where he rolled credits at 59 minutes and 38 seconds. At the time, it appeared to be a new world record. "That could not have been closer," he said at the time.

That record only took a few hours to be beaten. Distortion2 on YouTube published his own speedrun where he undercut the previous record by ten minutes, rolling credits at 49 minutes and 29 seconds. Even more impressive, Distortion2 claims it was his first attempt at speedrunning the game, and that the category for Any% runs (essentially, reaching the end by any means) could probably go under 40 minutes.

FromSoftware games have been favourites of the speedrunning community since Demon's Souls on PS3, with players spending years figuring out the perfect strategies and shortcuts.

The original Dark Souls, for example, has been completed in 21 minutes and 17 seconds while Bloodborne's world record comes in at 21 minutes and 15 seconds.

Elden Ring, as an open world game, is much bigger than the previous FromSoftware titles, but the fact that players have already trimmed what can be a 100 hour adventure down to 49 minutes certainly suggests that there will be hot competition to get close to even smaller numbers.

In our 10/10 review, IGN said: "Elden Ring is a massive iteration on what FromSoftware began with the Souls series, bringing its relentlessly challenging combat to an incredible open world that gives us the freedom to choose our own path."
