Elden Ring — How to beat Margit the Fell Omen

Date:

Margit the Fell Omen is the first major boss in Elden Ring, and you’ll fight him once you get past the Castleward Tunnels as cited in our Limgrave walkthrough. Although he poses quite a challenge (probably a surprise even for Souls veterans), there are still some mechanics that can help newcomers. Here’s our Elden Ring boss guide to help you defeat Margit the Fell Omen.

Elden Ring boss guide – How to beat Margit the Fell Omen

Margit the Fell Omen is fairly tough even though he’s the first boss in Elden Ring‘s campaign. Here are some notable abilities:

  • Regular melee – His melee swipes have a wide arc, and he can quickly turn around to pound you.
  • Leaping Smash – If you see him leap into the air, dodge forward to clear the targeted area. This will leave him open for a few seconds, allowing you to connect with some hits.
  • Holy Dagger – Likewise, if you’re a bit further away, he’ll throw an energy dagger. This doesn’t do a lot of damage compared to his other abilities, but it’s going to mess with your maneuvering or avoidance.

NPC Helper: Sorcerer Rogier and summons

Before you start the Margit the Fell Omen boss fight in Elden Ring, you can summon an NPC named Sorcerer Rogier by interacting with the golden sign in front of the arena entrance. Sorcerer Rogier uses Glintstone projectiles and blades, and he’ll be a helpful distraction while you’re fighting your opponent.

Also, although fairly weak, the Lone Wolf Ashes can be used as a summon to also get the boss’ attention. Even better and assuming you’ve acquired it, the Spirit Jellyfish Ashes from Roderika has more HP.

Margit’s Shackle

Another item that can prove to be useful is Margit’s Shackle. This can be purchased from Patches in Murkwater Cave. It’s a bit further away, and it costs a hefty sum of 5,000 runes. You might want to look at our rune farming guide to help you amass this currency.

Margit’s Shackle is an item that can be used twice in each attempt, and only before the boss reaches phase 2 (i.e., below 50% HP). It will stun the boss for a couple of seconds, so you can wail away without any risks.

Note 1: Margit can be stunned as long as you’re hitting him consistently. If he jumps away, use a throwing item to prevent him from regaining his Super Armor (i.e., think of it as similar to Poise in that you can break it and do a critical move when the boss is stunned).

Note 2: Avoid the sides of the bridge as rolls and Margit’s pushes can cause you to fall. And you also can’t cause your enemy to fall to his doom, so don’t bother.

After beating Margit the Fell Omen in Elden Ring, you’ll receive a Talisman Pouch. This increases the number of talismans that you can equip on your character.

In any case, you can continue onward to Stormveil Castle, which is the campaign’s first Legacy Dungeon. Unlike mini-dungeons found while you’re exploring, Legacy Dungeons are larger and more complex, with several secrets and a boss fight or two along the way.
