EG v C9 LCS Summer Split 2022 Playoffs

With this 3-1 victory, C9 secured themselves a spot at Worlds 2022, while EG is knocked down to the lower bracket.

EG v C9 – Game 1

Both teams came into Game 1 with scaling drafts, so the early game did not contain much action. The first blood came after a mid gank from Inspired but C9 answered with three kills after they took the first Herald. C9 was the more active team during mid game when it came to kills and objectives, but at least EG had the advantage in towers. The game was stalled out a little when C9 started Baron to bait a fight. It worked out well for them as they got four kills for none after a great engage, and secured themselves the Baron for a 5k gold lead. With the Baron, C9 had a great 1-3-1 setup and put great pressure on EG. Then Blaber found a massive engagement on Jojo and C9 aced their opponents in the ensuing fight to give themselves a 1-0 start in the series.

EG v C9 – Game 2

Game 2 had a much higher tempo in the early game with C9 being aggressive all around the map. EG tried to answer by getting some kills back but after the teams traded the first objectives, C9 had a 1k gold lead. Despite Blaber’s massive early game putting C9 very ahead, a couple of mid game mistakes gave EG a way back into the game. C9 had a great team fight around the drake to put themselves on the Soul point, but EG hit back with a Baron after getting 2 picks and then defending the C9’s steal attempt. With the Baron, EG almost tied the gold difference between the teams. But just as EG was finding hope with Danny, C9 found a great engagement with a Teleporting Fudge. They got three kills which was enough for them to push for the end. With this C9 was only one game ahead for a big upset win.

EG v C9 – Game 3

The third game of the series, the third time the first blood came in the mid lane, and this time for C9. C9 also got the first Herald, but EG was able to answer with the first drake. Neither bot lane duos were involved in the action until the second drake, where C9 chased down the opponent and Berserker’s Zeri got a triple kill. C9 extended their lead to over 2k but EG managed to keep the game close by securing the drakes and putting themselves on the Cloud Soul point. C9 tried to start the Baron and turn one too many times during mid game and EG eventually punished them for it. They took four kills, the Baron and the Soul and they turned the gold lead around.

EG tried to end the game with their Baron, and they went as far as the Nexus towers. But C9 put up a great defense at this point and managed to defend their Nexus with an ace. With no other objectives yet on the map, EG made another attempt to finish the game, this time went much better as they won the fight and finally put one game on the scoreboard.

EG v C9 – Game 4

For their second match point, C9 threw the gauntlet with an Olaf/Zilean draft. With his pocket pick, Blaber was mostly focused on farming. EG was the team who went for the first two objectives, but Blaber managed to steal the first drake after a failed Smite from Inspired. At 18 minutes there was almost no action in the game except objectives and the kills were tied at 0-0. But it did not stayed like that for too long as there was a bloodshed for the third drake fight. C9 won the fight and the objective, thanks to a quadra kill from Berserker’s Zeri. But EG gave a perfect answer by finding two picks on the C9 bot lane, leading to a Baron take and a 3k gold lead for them.

In the Soul fight, Inspired once again made a mistake with his Smite, and used it on the Scuttle, which gave C9 the opportunity to secure it, even though the fight went even. Then it was C9’s turn to try for a Baron. They secure it very fast and got two kills after it. However, they did not try to end the game as the Elder was about to spawn. But C9 did not need to take the Elder, they just fought and aced their enemy. A Teleporting Fudge finished the game and secured C9 a Worlds 2022 spot.
