EA Sports PGA Tour Still in the Rough, Delayed to Next Year

Date:

Originally slated to release this year, the next EA Sports PGA Tour game has had its release date delayed to Spring 2023. This push to next year will allow EA Tiburon, who is developing the game using the Frostbite engine, to polish the game for its long hiatus back into the scene since Rory McIlroy PGA Tour released in July 2015.

EA Sports PGA Tour delay will allow it compete with PGA 2K series

EA Sports PGA Tour Delay Release Date

While EA announced the delay in the headline of its press release, it also made sure to position itself as a competitor to the PGA Tour 2K series by listing some notable features. Chiefly, it touts that the next EA Sports PGA Tour title will be the only golf game where players can compete in all four major championships: US Open, The Players Championship, The Open Championship, and Masters Tournament.

Cam Weber, EVP and GM of EA Sports, believes that the exclusive licensing deals to these four majors will give the next EA Sports PGA Tour title the fighting edge it needs:

“There are few things in sports that match the thrill of winning a major championship, and we’re excited to bring all  four majors.

…Through our PGA Tour and LPGA parternships, all-new PGA TOUR athlete tracking integration, and events like The Players Championship and FedExCup Playoffs, players will be able to get an all-access to pro championship golf like never before.”

As for the LPGA, the game promises to include The Amundi Evian Championship, one of the LPGA’s majors, and the ability to create a female golfer in a “newly overhauled Create-A-Player.” To complement this, former golfer and current broadcaster Iona Stephen will be joining the game’s commentary team.

It is currently unclear if the upcoming EA Sports PGA title will feature a prominent golfer like Rory McIlroy. The franchise might have gone back to Tiger Woods, but he has already signed a long-term exclusive deal with 2K.

In other news, the free Ascension update for Returnal has been released, and George R.R. Martin denies that the gods in Elden Ring are named after him.
