EA Play Live 2022 Canceled In Favor of Showing Games Individually

Date:

EA has followed in the footsteps of the E3 hosts by announcing they have canceled their EA Play Live event in 2022. Instead of showing all of their games at a single event, the publisher has opted to show off their upcoming projects “when the time is right for each of them”.

Another summer show bites the dust

While EA has not taken part in E3 for a few years, they had organized their annual EA Play event to take place at roughly the same time. EA Play Live would be an event for both media and players, with both able to turn up to the show to try out the publisher’s latest and upcoming games. Due to the Covid pandemic, last year was an online streaming event only, but this year’s show has been canceled for other reasons. In a statement to IGN, EA explained how “things aren’t lining up” for games to be ready for one big showcase and they will now be shown individually instead:

We love EA Play Live as it’s our way of connecting with our players and sharing what’s new with all of you. However, this year things aren’t lining up to show you everything on one date. We have exciting things happening at our world-class studios and this year we’ll reveal much more about these projects when the time is right for each of them. We look forward to spending time with you throughout the year!

EA Play is not the first summer show to be canceled. The ESA has already confirmed the E3 2022 in-person event will not take place and it remains to be seen whether an online version will replace it. However, Geoff Keighley has announced that Summer Games Fest will take place in 2022 while Gamescom will return to an in-person event in August.

In other news, console shortages in Europe have meant that the Xbox Series X|S consoles have outsold PS5 consoles for the first time since they launched. Elsewhere, several Sifu Matrix mods have meant players can turn themselves in Neo.
