The last week of the DPC in Western Europe has ended; after five weeks of epic action.

Western Europe had a few additional matches to offer in Division I and Division II. We know the teams that scored a direct invite, so let’s break down the most important moments from the final week of competition in WEU.

Division I

Our Upper Division is home to the cream of the crop, but they don’t all have what it takes to make it to the Major. We look at how each team fared in their final series.

Team Liquid vs Alliance

The series between TL and Alliance was fun to watch, but it didn’t matter because Nikolay “Nikobaby” Nikolov and his teammates had already dropped to Division II. This was one of the biggest surprised of the DPC because Alliance used to be among the favorites. Sadly, the series of disappointing results did not allow the team to utilize its potential.

Even though Alliance wanted to win their last game, the team failed to overcome Team Liquid. Lasse Aukusti “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen and his teammates played well and did not allow their opponents to use their power.

Team Liquid had little to no trouble in game one but failed to win the second one. Nikobaby’s Phantom Assassin gained a lot of momentum and ripped through Liquid’s draft. Unfortunately, the Bulgarian superstar was unable to show his prowess in the third game of the series. Team Liquid’s Storm Spirit was able to defeat Anti-Mage and secured his team the victory.

Team Secret vs Team Tickles

The second series might not have been that important, but it was a great watch. Everyone wanted to see whether Team Tickles could defeat one of the best teams in Europe after dealing with the other big names in Division I. Despite being the favorites, Anton “dyrachyo” Shkredov and the rest failed to overcome the might Team Secret. Clement “Puppey” Ivanov’s incredible drafts in both games allowed Team Secret to secure two quick victories. 

After winning with IO in game one, TT decided to steal the hero and use it to their advantage in game two. Sadly, they had to go up against Anti-Mage and OD, a combo that is slowly but steadily becoming more popular.  Even though Team Tickled had their chances, Secret was the better team and won their final series.

OG vs Tundra Esports

The series between OG and Tundra Esports turned out to be a lot more interesting than we thought. People expected OG to dominate and secure a quick 2-0 victory. However, Bozhidar “bzm” Bogdanov and the other team members were unable to win.

Both games lasted around 37 minutes and included similar heroes. OG relied on Shadow Demon and Mars, whereas Tundra Esports picked Puck and Razor, which was expected. Although OG had a very strong laning stage, Tundra Esports played better and deserved their victory in this series.

Division II

The teams in Division II still have a long fight to the top, we take a look at how their final games of Season 1 stack up.

Entity vs NoBH

Entity is one of the teams that people expected to perform better than it did. After failing to win in matches where it should have, the team got a free win against No Bounty Hunter. The latter had a lot of problems since the beginning of this DPC and even disbanded after a couple of games. Needless to say, every team that has to go up against them gets a free victory, so it was finally Entity’s turn.

Team Bald Reborn vs Chicken Fighters

TBR and CF were two teams that people thought were evenly matched before the DPC began. However, Chicken Fighters proved that they are in a different league after winning most of their matches.

The series against TBR was like a walk in the park for Duško “BoraNija” Boranijaševic and the other people from his team. Despite having Medusa and Invoker in their lineups, Chicken Fighters needed a little over 20 minutes to win. Following their dominant performance, the team did the same in game two. This time, Chicken Fighters picked QoP and Templar Assassin, which made the game even easier. The two heroes annihilated their opponents, which allowed CF To win in under 20 minutes.

Brame vs Into The Breach

The final series of Division II was between the group leaders and Into The Breach. Everyone expected Nikolay “CTOMAHEH1” Kalchev and co. to win, and they did. However, it was not easy because ITB played well in all three games.

After picking LC and Invoker in game one, Brame secured a lead in the series. The team played exceptionally well in the laning stage, so it was just a matter of time before securing the victory. Sadly, luck was not on their side in game two because ITB rolled out Broodmother. No one expected this hero, so it probably doesn’t come as a surprise ITB equalized the series.

After losing the second game, Brame decided it was time to utilize some of the best heroes. Consequently, the team picked PA and Enchantress, two heroes who helped them greatly. Following another impressive laning stage, Brame secured a big lead and won the series.

Now that the matches in Division II are over, it is time to focus on the upcoming Tiebreakers. We’ve got four interesting matches to choose from, so be sure to keep an eye on them.
