With the release of the Death Stranding Director’s Cut, many might be wondering if the game has cross-progression.

Death Stranding, the first game from Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions since their split from Konami in 2015, first released back in November, 2019. The game initially released on PlayStation 4, with a PC release coming via Steam around six months later. Now, with the release of the Death Stranding Director’s Cut, players can grab an upgraded version for PlayStation 5. The Director’s Cut adds a whole host of new features, including new graphics, new abilitles, and replayable boss battles.

Of course, many picking up the Death Stranding Director’s Cut might have already purchased the game when it first released on PS4. For these players now playing on a PS5, many might be wondering if they can just pick up from where they left off.

Good news for PlayStation 5 owners – Death Stranding does support cross-progression, to an extent. Players upgrading to the PS5 version will be able to carry over their PS4 saves and continue their journey. Of course, with the game having only released on PlayStation and PC, there’s no news yet as to whether players will be able to carry over a PS4/PS5 save to Xbox – providing that the game ever releases on this platform.

It’s worth noting that saves currently cannot transfer from PlayStation over to PC, so for the time being cross-progression is limited to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Death Stranding Director’s Cut is out now on PlayStation 5. Players who already own the base game on PlayStation 4 can upgrade to the Director’s Cut for $10.
