Does Battlefield 2042 have cross-progression?

Date:

Anticipation is slowing building towards the October release of Battlefield 2042, the next entry in the iconic and explosive Battlefield franchise. In 2042, the Ripple Effect Studios team, formerly known as DICE LA, is focusing solely on multiplayer this time and implementing new features like specialists and fully customized loadouts into the famous Battlefield experience.

Battlefield 2042 is coming to a variety of platforms when it releases later this year, including PC, next-gen consoles, and current-gen consoles. Naturally, this raised questions about playing and progressing between consoles, so here’s what we know about it.

Will Battlefield 2042 have cross-progression?

Yes, Battlefield 2042 will have cross-progression. In an updated Battlefield Briefing posted on July 14, the developer team said it is “building cross-progression and cross-commerce for Battlefield 2042, which will be shared across all platforms.”

This means levels gained, weapons unlocked, and cosmetics earned on your account will be useable if playing on another platform. Everything you earn playing on PC will be useable on Xbox Series X, PS5, Xbox One, and/or PS4. In addition to items you earn, anything you purchase on any platform will be available on other platforms as well.

The announcement also says that cross-progression and cross-commerce will “travel with you wherever you go,” perhaps indicating that these systems will carry over to the new mobile Battlefield game being developed.

Will Battlefield 2042 have crossplay?

Yes, Battlefield 2042 will also have crossplay. In the same post, the team says it is still building crossplay functionality and will be testing it for the first time in the upcoming invite-only Technical Playtest.

Past the testing phase, the team hopes for players of all platforms to be able to play with each other in the same server. They’re also giving PC and console players an opt-out option if they don’t want to play with each other.

This is the first time that the Battlefield series will feature both crossplay and cross-progression. Battlefield 2042 will also be the first Battlefield game to release for the next-generation of consoles.

Players can sign up for the Technical Playtest by registering for EA Playtesting on their website. If you’re unable to, or if you’re not selected to join, you can tune into the EA Play Live event on July 22, where the team promises to debut a new feature it’s ready to talk about.
