Do Women Get the Munchies More Than Men After Smoking Weed?

Do Women Get the Munchies More Than Men?

women get munchies more than men?

This researcher thinks maybe?

Ah yes, “Science!” It’s our shield against ignorance & the driving force behind all the cool shit we own. It’s what helped take us out of the dark ages and helped us put a man out on the moon. It’s our compass and lets us know what’s “right” and what’s unsubstantiated nonsense posing as “truth”.

It’s true – if it wasn’t for the scientific method and the body of work left to us by scientists – society would be completely different. Science has helped us achieve great feats as a collective “body” – however, these days the type of science being sold to us in many cases fails to live up to the “scientific legacy” of those who came before.

Let’s take for instance a study published in the Journal of Drug and Alcohol Dependence entitled, “Sex-related differences in subjective, but not neural, cue-elicited craving response in heavy cannabis users”. For those who don’t know what all this scientific jargon means – it is referring to the munchies. Scientists love to use words to cover the mundane nature of their work to make it sound more ‘exciting’ – however, in many cases, they only manage to over-complicate their ideas making it harder for people to catch on.

Within this particular study, the researchers were testing whether or not users would have higher cravings for cannabis under a variety of situations. In one experiment – the users were given a pipe or something similar and had to answer a questionnaire relating to how intense their cravings were to smoke.

On this particular exam – women scored slightly higher than men. You sassy stoners! However – later on, they might have found out that this could also be related to the estrogen levels inside the body, and could even relate to when women get their menstrual cycles.

“…when women self-reported higher estrogen levels due to their menstrual cycles, they rated their marijuana cravings higher on average.” – SOURCE

And then you’re left there scratching your head mumbling to yourself saying; “…so women get more cravings for munchies than men ESPECIALLY when they are on their periods”. This classifies as science these days and while I guess there could be some reason why the researchers decided to look into this – it hardly counts as something substantial in the realm of cannabis sciences.

It is at this moment you begin to understand that the research was found within The Journal of Drug and Alcohol Dependence and that they were talking about CUD [cannabis use disorder] when you realize that this isn’t probably science at all – but rather propaganda aimed at sustaining a model.

I don’t know anymore – based on the jargon within the actual study and the objective of the study, I would not take these “findings” as absolutes. However – I do think it’s important that people understand what their tax dollars are being spent on. These kinds of studies aren’t adding any scientific value to the body of research on cannabis.

The Body of Scientific Research on Cannabis

The body of scientific research concerning cannabis is huge. There are over 20,000 studies available online right now in a wide range of categories.

This puts us at odds with the statement “We need more research” on the subject matter. If we “need more research” then wouldn’t it be logical to promote the type of research that would answer the important questions when it comes to weed.

Not “whether women get the munchies at a higher rate” than men do  – especially when they are having their periods. How did this type of research even get greenlit in the first place? Which federal agency though, “Yes – fuck spending on cancer research or the endocannabinoid system, let’s figure out who gets more munchies!”

I’m sure the researchers and the public could have had far more benefit if the research wasn’t conducted under the lens of “pathology”. Whenever CUD or Cannabis Use Disorder enters into the conversation, I immediately realize that the “study” is no longer an objective discovery of truth but rather an intellectual hit piece aimed at supporting a particular narrative.

And while this is a waste of our time and money – these types of research are greenlit all the time, adding drivel to our extensive body of research on cannabis.  Some cannabis strains may induce food appetite, while others with a different cannabinoid profile, may be strains that won’t give you food cravings.

Perhaps it’s time that we encourage lawmakers to spend dollars on research that matters. Perhaps – it’s time we completely remove cannabis from the Controlled Substance Act so that more researchers can take a swing at these difficult questions.

Perhaps one of our next studies could relate to “who has redder eyes” or “what type of cottonmouth do you get when…”

You get the picture – maybe it’s time we start demanding more “scientific” research when it comes to cannabis. Especially since there’s “not enough research…” available. Don’t you think?
