After a fact-finding committee determined IndiGo staff had violated regulations in refusing boarding to a differently abled child at the Ranchi airport recently, the aviation regulator DGCA said it has issued a “showcause notice” to the airline. The kid was refused boarding because he was “visibly in panic,” according to the airline.

An IndiGo manager refused to let the kid board an aircraft on May 7. The airlines apparently stated that the kid was a flight risk, according to an eyewitness testimony published on Twitter. He also compared the child’s state of teenage assertiveness to that of intoxicated passengers. The child and their parents were left behind when the plane took off towards Hyderabad.

A day after an eyewitness account of the incident went viral on Twitter, the DGCA authorised a fact-finding investigation.

In conjunction with the incident, the DGCA formed a three-person team. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the probe, according to the aviation regulator.

“The committee has submitted its report. The proceedings of the committee were partly held in the open and partly in camera as per the request of the affected family. The findings of the committee prima facie indicate inappropriate handling of passengers by the Indigo staff thereby resulting in certain non-conformances with the applicable regulations,” the DCGA stated.

The airlines have also been given the option to have a personal hearing as well as make written statements by May 26. Following their submission, necessary legal action will be taken.
