Deutsche Telekom is ramping up its global presence in the IoT market by joining Bridge Alliance, a consortium of 35 mobile operators spanning Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, and now Europe.
The new partnership gives Deutsche Telekom’s IoT subsidiary access to Bridge Alliance’s extensive connectivity and value-added services, including IoT/M2M solutions.
Deutsche Telekom is the first European telco to join the alliance and marks a significant step towards its goal of becoming a global IoT connectivity provider. It offers streamlined access to the burgeoning Asia-Pacific (APAC) market for international businesses, particularly those in the rapidly expanding Asian electric vehicle sector.
“We are very pleased to now be a strong partner for the Bridge Alliance. We are pooling the know-how and technical expertise of all members. Together, we always offer our customers the best connectivity solution for their global challenge,” said Dennis Nikles, Managing Director of Deutsche Telekom IoT.
“For companies from the Asian region, it is now even easier to do IoT business in Europe. This is particularly interesting for the growing market of Asian electric vehicles in Europe. But European customers also benefit. A strong global offering – all under one contract, one management, and one globally standardised service.”
This collaboration simplifies international IoT deployments by eliminating the need for businesses to negotiate individual agreements with local providers. Deutsche Telekom’s T IoT Hub acts as a central point of contact, streamlining operations and offering a single contract, service team, and access point for managing all IoT connections. The partnership also simplifies procurement with pre-optimised contracts, consistent global service level agreements, and unified customer support.
Navigating local regulations and data sovereignty issues is crucial for any global business. Bridge Alliance addresses this by providing local connectivity under global contracts, ensuring compliance with varying national regulations, such as data localisation requirements and restrictions on permanent roaming.
Deutsche Telekom’s partnership with Bridge Alliance complements its existing “network of networks” strategy, which includes recently announced tariffs for Satellite IoT and roaming agreements with over 600 international partners.
The company also collaborates with T-Mobile in the US, further solidifying its transatlantic reach. This multi-faceted approach combines satellite, NB-IoT, LTE-M, 4G, and 5G technologies to deliver highly reliable global connectivity.
