With the air quality in Delhi being very poor, the Delhi government has extended work from home for its employees till November 26. This move will definitely contribute to lessening the number of vehicles on the road, and therefore, air pollution. It will also ensure that employees are not exposed to the toxic air outside, which is hazardous to health.
Schools and colleges in the Capital are going to remain shut till further notice.
Entry of trucks has also been stopped till November 26. Only trucks with essential items will be allowed into Delhi till then.
As per an official order, barring entities providing emergency and essential services, offices of GNCT of Delhi, autonomous bodies and corporations will be shut till November 26. The officers and officials will continue to work from home for the next four days.
Earlier, the Delhi government had banned all construction and demolition activities in the city till November 21. This ban has been lifted.
On 20 November, Delhi’s air quality index at 9 a.m. was 382, while the 24-hour average was 374. Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Greater Noida, Gurgaon and Noida also recorded ‘very poor’ air quality with AQI of 347, 344, 322, 345 and 356 respectively.
It is hoped that strong surface winds will help to disperse polluted air and improve its quality in a day or two.
