December Launch Date Locked in for Pistol Whip 2089

Date:

Cloudhead Games’ Pistol Whip became an instant success when it initially launched in 2019, with the studio continually adding new content over the following months. Then in June, it started to tease more longterm plans including an ‘Action Pack’, which was subsequently revealed to be Pistol Whip 2089 during Facebook Connect. Now the studio has confirmed the update will be rolled out in a couple of weeks.

Pistol Whip 2089

Pistol Whip 2089 is set to be the videogames’ biggest content update to date, not merely new scenes but an actual action campaign set across five story-driven chapters. “In 2089, a plague of killer androids has overrun an off-world colony, leaving only one hero with the mettle needed to shut it all down,” Cloudhead Games has said.

Fan of the title will be treated to new weapons, mechanics and of course new robotic enemies to take down. Continuing its vivid aesthetic – with plenty of purple by the looks of it – it wouldn’t be a Pistol Whip experience without new music, so there’s going to be epic new music tracks by synthwave artists including Magic Sword, Processor, and more.

With a lot of rhythm-action shooters available for VR headsets, Pistol Whip was designed to offer something a little different, inspired by the likes of movie heroes such as John Wick. Providing a thumping soundtrack and intense visuals, you shoot and gun butt enemies as well as dodging incoming bullets like a movie badass. With 18 levels to play through you can select modifiers to alter the gameplay, adding dual-wield weapons or removing the aim assist to increase the score multiplier.

Pistol Whip 2089

Last year VRFocus gave Pistol Whip a solid four-stars in its PC VR review, saying: “Pistol Whip is huge amounts of fun even on the easiest difficulty setting, suitable for VR players no matter their skill level.”

Pistol Whip 2089 will launch for Oculus Quest and Rift platforms on Tuesday 1st December 2020. No date just yet for the PlayStation VR version, when that comes in we’ll let you know.
