Date:

David Nemtzow, Director of the Building Technologies Office at the U.S. Department of Energy will deliver the opening keynote address at the Association of Energy Services Professionals’ first Virtual Conference to be held September 1-3, 2020.

As the power grid and energy economy become increasingly focused on renewables integration, climate mitigation, electrification and resilience – without losing the need for affordability, reliability and customer service – energy efficiency needs grow, in both size and sophistication. The conference will focus on these issues, including how utilities and programs are adapting to the challenges of the COVID-19 crisis.

In his presentation titled “The Brave(?) New(?) World of Energy Efficiency(!),” Nemtzow will explain why efficiency and demand flexibility need to “up their game” to respond to current needs. He will also discuss the role of Grid-interactive Efficient Buildings in providing grid services, energy efficiency, demand flexibility and renewables integration; and propose measures that should be taken to accelerate the adoption of building-sector efficiency and demand flexibility.

As Director of the Buildings Technology Office, Nemtzow leads a $285 million per year office that develops energy efficiency and demand flexibility R&D, market-facing projects and other solutions for building technologies, equipment, systems and whole buildings. Previously, he was Director-General of the New South Wales, Australia Department of Energy, Utilities, and Sustainability; and President of the Alliance to Save Energy.

His presentation is sponsored by Franklin Energy. “We are delighted to be able to sponsor the opening keynote for AESP’s first virtual conference. Now, more than ever, industry practitioners need to gather and discuss the topics of the day, and Mr. Nemtzow’s insights will be the catalyst for thoughtful discussions and ideas sharing to take place in the next few days of the online conference,” said Jim Madej, Franklin Energy’s new chief executive officer.
