CS:GO: How to Use an AUG

Date:

A simple guide to help you make the most of an AUG in CS:GO.

An AUG is one of the weapons in CS:GO some people love to play with, whereas others hate it. It may not be as popular as the M4A4, but it definitely has a lot of potential, especially if you compare it to the test.

(A little weapon lore; the AUG is an Austrian assault rifle, and gets it’s name from Armee Universal Gewehr, meaning universal army rifle in English.)

This gun has been a part of the CS:GO universe for many years, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that people are used to it. AUG is also a part of other shooting games, such as CoD, where it plays a vital role in some of the games’ series.

Despite being popular, many people who play CS: GO aren’t familiar with the weapon, which means they don’t know how to utilize its full potential. That’s why we’ve created this short guide where we’ll try to explain some of the mechanics and specs you should be aware of before using an AUG.

AUG Basics

One of the most important things that CS:GO players have to know about the AUG is that this weapon is not cheap. It costs $3300, which makes it more expensive than the M4A4. The good news is that the gun used to cost more in the previous games from the Counter-Strike universe.

Aside from the weapon’s costs, it is important to point out that it is only available on the CT side. In other words, Terrorists can only get this item if they kill a CT that has it.

Like other popular weapons in the game, this one has 30 rounds and a fire rate of 600 rounds per minute, which is impressive. On top of that, this weapon does more damage than the M4A4, meaning you can land a headshot on a target even if they have armor and helmet.

Despite the positives, there are also a few negative sides that you should be aware of. For example, the weapon is heavier than the M4, which means you will be slower while using it.

AUG’s recoil pattern is another thing that has to be taken into consideration prior to getting this weapon. It is fairly accurate compared to other popular guns in the game, especially if you use the scope.

Stats

Like other rifles in the game, killing someone with an AUG will give you $300. The weapon’s base damage is 28, which is not that high compared to others in the class, but it is better than loads of other weapons.

One of the problems that people have to take into consideration when getting this weapon is its reload time, which takes 3.77 seconds. This makes it among the slowest weapons in the game. It is also among the main reasons pro players rarely choose this weapon.

Unfortunately, the problems don’t end because AUG’s deployment time is 1.17 seconds. In other words, you have to be careful when participating in shootouts because the weapon is slower in comparison to some of the things used by the Terrorists, such as an AK 47.

Another important aspect you have to know about the AUG before getting it is that its damage is not that good if the target is more than 1200 units. Regardless of whether it has armor or not, you will need to hit your target at least a couple of times before killing it.

Benefits of the AUG

One of the significant advantages of using an AUG is that the weapon works well in close and distant combat. It may not have the fire rate of an M4, but the fact that it deals more damage helps people land headshots much easier.

As we’ve mentioned a couple of times, the other thing that makes this weapon stand out from the other options is the scope. Besides the sniper rifle, this is one of the few options in CS:GO that offers a scope, which means it is stronger in many situations. This addition to the weapon and the fact that Valve lowered its price a couple of years ago had a massive impact on its popularity.
