CS GO knife: a weapon or a cult?

Date:

Counter-Strike has been around for over 20 years. During this time, both the game and the weapons in it were constantly changing. Only melee weapons remained practically unchanged. Over time, it became obvious that the main thing in the Counter-Strike arsenal is a regular CSGO knife that every player wears from the very beginning of the round.

It was the mechanics of the game with melee weapons that made the shooter much more fun and dynamic. And with the release of the latest version of the game, the knife CSGO has also become a fashion accessory that everyone seriously boasts of.

The knife is:
Useful in close combat,
Indispensable for fast movement,
Spectacular in appearance.

Thanks to these useful qualities, the knife in CS has become legendary. Let’s figure out what exactly is the coolness of such a small device.

Knives history

The knife has appeared in Counter-Strike since the beta version, which was released in 1999. It was not at all like the weapon that later appeared in CS 1.6 and CS: GO and looked more like a bayonet knife. The mechanics of playing with it was also significantly different, since then the knife did not have a second attack on the right mouse button. The developers added it only in CS Beta 7.0.

Knife advantages

One of the main advantages of the knife in Counter-Strike is that it is light, which means that playing with it significantly increases the player’s movement speed. Moreover, if in earlier versions of CS it was possible to move just as quickly with other light devices, then in CS: GO it simply has no equal in this indicator.
Aside from the obvious use of a knife as a melee weapon (useful if you run out of ammo and don’t have time to reload), you can greatly improve the economy by stabbing your opponent. For killing an enemy with a knife in competitive mode, they give out $1,500, while for a frag from a shotgun – $900, and for eliminating an enemy with an automatic rifle – in general, only $300. In the conditions of a close match, even such a difference in finances can give a significant boost to the economy.

Knives in Counter-Strike are a cult

There are currently 19 knife models in CS: GO, and that’s not counting the two default ones for each side. Karambit, butterfly knife, stiletto, bayonet, and a bunch of other beautiful items have already been added to the game. Thanks to this innovation, the love for knives in Counter-Strike has become even stronger. Now it is not just a weapon, but a stylish inventory item. Just like in real life, people try to stand out by buying fashionable things, in CS: GO, knives have become the main accessory for a real fan. Prices for knives start at about $50, but you can’t buy a really beautiful thing for less than $200-250.

Knives and the Pro scene

The professional CS: GO scene is full of highlights from the knife, and each of them is unique in its own way. Most of all, these are the highlights, in which players use melee weapons tactically and win important rounds with it.

For example, it was two knife kills that helped the Danish team Astralis break away from the opponent. In the pistol round, Nikolai “Device” Ritz used up all the bullets in his firearms and switched to cold weapons. Even in such a difficult situation, he dealt with the enemies professionally – he jumped on both opponents with a knife and brought victory to his team.

Conclusion

Obviously, comparing the popularity of knives and firearms in Counter-Strike is still not entirely correct. For players, melee weapons are more of an accessory that is constantly in their inventory and helps them move faster. They kill with knives in CS many times less than with machine guns and pistols, and therefore they don’t even consider it a full-fledged weapon. But in modern Counter-Strike, it does not need this title. Now a beautiful knife is a fashionable in-game device and the dream of all players in the world, and only then a weapon.
