CrowdStrike plans to use Preempt Security’s conditional access technology to strengthen its Falcon platform.
CrowdStrike has agreed to acquire Preempt Security, a provider of zero-trust and conditional access technology for threat prevention, for $96 million, the two companies announced today.
The endpoint security company plans to integrate Preempt Security’s technology into Falcon, CrowdStrike’s cloud-native endpoint protection platform. Falcon already includes threat detection, vulnerability assessment, and incident response, among other capabilities.
This deal is meant to further strengthen the platform with conditional access technology, which will help users with greater visibility and enforcement for identity data, CrowdStrike reports. The inclusion of Preempt’s capabilities will help protect businesses from insider threats and other identity-based attacks.
“The technology detects identity-based attacks and unauthorized access attempts, allowing customers to block, notify, force re-authentication, or challenge the user with multi-factor authentication,” says CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz of Preempt’s tech in a blog post on the acquisition.
CrowdStrike plans to expand its zero-trust capabilities to incorporate critical identity data and create a new module as part of the Falcon platform. These changes will begin once the acquisition is complete, which is slated to happen in CrowdStrike’s fiscal third quarter of 2021.
