Crowdfunding PR Tips – Kickstarter – Indiegogo

Date:

When it comes to crowdfunding, there are very few tools that are as effective as PR (Public Relations).  That is, getting noteworthy news outlets and blogs to write about your campaign and share your goodness with their readers.  However, most people do PR all wrong and end up frustrated as they think back to all the hours wasted.  It doesn’t have to be this way however!  This blog post is designed to show you the correct way to pitch by giving you the essential Crowdfunding PR Tips.

Step 1.  Get A Media List

A media list is a list of media contacts that contain first name, last name, outlet, beat and email.  You can secure one at Krowdster.co.  Once you get your list you’ll want to identify which outlets you want to pitch.  Copy/paste those onto a new spreadsheet.

Step 2.  Write Your Pitch

A pitch is an email that you send to a person in the media or a blogger.  In this email you want to tell them who you are, what you do, why you’re special and why their readers should care.  Here’s a template I use every time:

My company _________   (Name of your company)

Has created __________   (What did you create?)

For __________  (Target audience)

(Using Secret Sauce – Briefly tell them how you are different than everyone else – your differentiating factors)

Given you write about _________  I thought your readers would be very interested in what we are doing.

Can we talk about a story?

Step 3.  Start Pitching

Now that you have your pitch start emailing reporters and getting on their radar.  If you send an email and they don’t respond the first time, wait a week and send them another one with a slightly different pitch and a different subject line.

Step 4. Get A Press Release

Whereas pitching is designed to reach out to reporters one by one, a press release will get your message to the news desks of over 350 news outlets.  At Krowdster we will write your pitch for you and release it to the news outlets.  The only thing you have to do is give us a few fields of information and a link to your crowdfunding campaign.  So, if you’re following along, what you’ll notice is you have a deep strategy which involves pitching on your end, and a wide strategy that involves us writing your release and sending it on your behalf on the other end.

If you follow these simple steps you’ll find success with these crowdfunding PR tips.

Happy Crowdfunding!
