The National Cannabis Risk Management Association’s annual conference is the latest high-profile marijuana event to be scrapped due to coronavirus fears.
The conference was scheduled to take place at the Bally’s hotel and resort in Las Vegas from March 22-24. It planned to educate attendees on accounting, tax, loss control, safety, cyber education, capital funding, entrepreneurship mentoring, mergers, acquisitions, compliance, audit and much more.
It has been postponed to a later date in the year, likely the fall, but new dates have not yet been confirmed. “Though we are disappointed to have to postpone our event, as our leadership continued to monitor the developments, it became abundantly clear that this was the correct course of action,” said Rocco Petrilli, chairman of the NCRMA.
The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has now infected more than 700 people in the US and at least 26 have died. Authorities are scrambling to contain the virus.
Many Americans have been advised to avoid large public gatherings. Travel restrictions and corporate travel bans have been imposed, making it difficult or impossible for participants to reach destinations.
New Hope Network postponed its CBD product trade fair, Natural Products Expo West, which was slated to take place last week in Anaheim, California. A new set of dates should be unveiled by mid-April.
The organizer initially announced that it was unsure about whether to host the event, but it finally made the “difficult decision” to postpone after a number of exhibitors and registered attendees announced plans to drop out due to coronavirus concerns.
The Cannabis Business Track at South by Southwest in Austin is also off after the big festival was cancelled. The American Herbal Products Association has indefinitely postponed the Hemp-CBD Supplement Congress that was set to run from April 14-15 in Portland, Oregon.
In Berlin, the International Cannabis Business Conference has been pushed back from April to July. The organizers of a major cannabis summit scheduled to take place in Israel later this month have decided to postpone the event over coronavirus fears.
CannaTech was poised to welcome hundreds of cannabis industry insiders to the Tel Aviv Hilton from March 30-31, but it has now been moved to the summer, although there are no guarantees that the virus will be under control by then.
