Nowadays with a growing number of online controlling systems in the organization and also a high demand of monitoring and stats facilities that uses data streams to log and control their subsystems, data stream mining becomes more and more vital. Hoeffding Trees (also called Very Fast Decision Trees a.k.a. VFDT) as a Big Data approach in dealing with the data stream for classification and regression problems showed good performance in handling facing challenges and making the possibility of any-time prediction. Although these methods outperform other methods e.g. Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Support Vector Regression (SVR), they suffer from high latency in adapting with new concepts when the statistical distribution of incoming data changes. In this article, we introduced a new algorithm that can detect and handle concept drift phenomenon properly. This algorithms also benefits from fast startup ability which helps systems to be able to predict faster than other algorithms at the beginning of data stream arrival. StarNEig google


In this paper, we present the StarNEig library for solving dense non-symmetric (generalized) eigenvalue problems. The library is built on top of the StarPU runtime system and targets both shared and distributed memory machines. Some components of the library support GPUs. The library is currently in an early beta state and only real arithmetic is supported. Support for complex data types is planned for a future release. This paper is aimed for potential users of the library. We describe the design choices and capabilities of the library, and contrast them to existing software such as ScaLAPACK. StarNEig implements a ScaLAPACK compatibility layer that should make it easy for a new user to transition to StarNEig. We demonstrate the performance of the library with a small set of computational experiments. …

Many challenging image processing tasks can be described by an ill-posed linear inverse problem: deblurring, deconvolution, inpainting, compressed sensing, and superresolution all lie in this framework. Traditional inverse problem solvers minimize a cost function consisting of a data-fit term, which measures how well an image matches the observations, and a regularizer, which reflects prior knowledge and promotes images with desirable properties like smoothness. Recent advances in machine learning and image processing have illustrated that it is often possible to learn a regularizer from training data that can outperform more traditional regularizers. We present an end-to-end, data-driven method of solving inverse problems inspired by the Neumann series, which we call a Neumann network. Rather than unroll an iterative optimization algorithm, we truncate a Neumann series which directly solves the linear inverse problem with a data-driven nonlinear regularizer. The Neumann network architecture outperforms traditional inverse problem solution methods, model-free deep learning approaches, and state-of-the-art unrolled iterative methods on standard datasets. Finally, when the images belong to a union of subspaces and under appropriate assumptions on the forward model, we prove there exists a Neumann network configuration that well-approximates the optimal oracle estimator for the inverse problem and demonstrate empirically that the trained Neumann network has the form predicted by theory. …

Heterogeneous Deep Discriminative Model (HDDM) google


This paper presents a new deep learning approach for video-based scene classification. We design a Heterogeneous Deep Discriminative Model (HDDM) whose parameters are initialized by performing an unsupervised pre-training in a layer-wise fashion using Gaussian Restricted Boltzmann Machines (GRBM). In order to avoid the redundancy of adjacent frames, we extract spatiotemporal variation patterns within frames and represent them sparsely using Sparse Cubic Symmetrical Pattern (SCSP). Then, a pre-initialized HDDM is separately trained using the videos of each class to learn class-specific models. According to the minimum reconstruction error from the learnt class-specific models, a weighted voting strategy is employed for the classification. The performance of the proposed method is extensively evaluated on two action recognition datasets; UCF101 and Hollywood II, and three dynamic texture and dynamic scene datasets; DynTex, YUPENN, and Maryland. The experimental results and comparisons against state-of-the-art methods demonstrate that the proposed method consistently achieves superior performance on all datasets. …

Iowa farm services firm: systems offline due to cybersecurity incident

CHICAGO (Reuters) -Iowa-based farm services provider NEW Cooperative Inc said on Monday its systems were offline to contain a “cybersecurity” incident just as the U.S. farm belt gears up for harvest.

The cooperative operates grain storage elevators in the top U.S. corn producing state, buys crops from farmers, sells fertilizer and other chemicals needed to grow crops and owns technology platforms for farmers that provide agronomic advice on the way to maximize their harvests.

“We have proactively taken our systems offline to contain the threat, and we can confirm it has been successfully contained,” NEW Cooperative Inc said in a statement. “We also quickly notified law enforcement and are working closely with data security experts to investigate and remediate the situation.”

Several grain storage elevators operated by NEW Cooperative contacted by Reuters were open.

The timing of the attack is making it crucial that NEW gets their systems back online as soon as possible as many farmers will start their combines this week and begin delivering crops to NEW’s elevators across Iowa, said Don Roose, president of U.S. Commodities in West Des Moines, Iowa.

“They have got you boxed into a corner,” Roose said. “Harvest is right now. This is the week that we are just starting to ramp up harvest, particularly for soybeans.”

Cybersecurity has risen to the top of the agenda for the Biden administration after a series of high-profile attacks on network management company SolarWinds Corp, the Colonial Pipeline’s oil network, meat processing company JBS and software firm Kaseya. The attacks hurt the United States far beyond just the companies hacked, affecting fuel and food supplies.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency declined to comment on the incident at NEW Cooperative.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“This is a very clear attack on an organization that is part of our critical infrastructure,” said Allan Liska, a senior analyst with U.S. cybersecurity firm Recorded Future. “This could result in disruptions to food delivery in parts of the country.”

A Russian-speaking cybercriminal group named BlackMatter said on its website they had recently stolen data from NEW Cooperative.

BlackMatter is known for using ransomware to threaten their victims with data leaks, often extorting them for a crypto currency payment.

The claim follows a July meeting between U.S. President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin, where Biden reportedly told Putin that “critical infrastructure” companies should be off limits to ransomware gangs.

Cybersecurity experts and federal prosecutors say ransomware groups often operate from Russia or Ukraine. The “food and agriculture” industry is publicly defined https://www.cisa.gov/food-and-agriculture-sector as a critical infrastructure sector by the Department of Homeland Security.

UK’s Johnson discussed taxation with Amazon’s Bezos

LONDON (Reuters) -British Prime Minister Boris Johnson discussed the issue of taxation when he met Amazon’s founder Jeff Bezos in New York, Downing Street said.

“The prime minister raised the issue of taxation, and hoped progress could be [made] in implementing the G7 agreement on tax,” a Downing Street spokesperson said in a readout of the meeting.

Bezos pledged on Monday to give away $1 billion in grants this year to focus on efforts around conservation.

The pledge is a part of his previously announced Bezos Earth Fund, which the Amazon founder started last year to execute his $10 billion commitment to fund scientists, activists and non-profit organizations in the fight against climate change.

“The prime minister welcomed the Bezos Earth Fund’s commitment, announced tonight, to give $1 billion to protect forests and remove carbon from the air,” Downing Street said.

“The prime minister and Mr Bezos agreed to work together to see what more could be done in the run up to and at COP26.”

SoftBank leads $680 million funding round in NFT fantasy soccer game Sorare

LONDON (Reuters) – Blockchain-based fantasy soccer game Sorare has raised $680 million in a funding round led by SoftBank, with players including ex-England international Rio Ferdinand and Spain’s Gerard Pique also investing, the company said on Tuesday.

Paris-based Sorare said the investment valued the company at $4.3 billion.

Founded in 2018, Sorare is an online game where players buy officially licensed cards representing soccer players and build teams which play against each other, with the outcome based on the players’ performance in real-life games.

The cards are traded in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), a kind of crypto asset which records the ownership status of digital goods on the blockchain.

The market for NFTs has seen explosive growth in 2021, with collectible and sports-related the most popular types of token.

“We think NFTs represent a new paradigm in the collectability, usability, and engagement with assets,” Michel Combes, president of SoftBank Group International, said in emailed comments.

“This evolution from physical assets to digital assets is very powerful, and creates a lot of exciting potential business models.”

Sorare is the largest sports-based NFT platform by sales volume, according to NonFungible.com, a website which tracks NFT market data. It plans to open an office in the United States and expand into sports other than soccer.

“We saw the immense potential that blockchain and NFTs brought to unlock a new way for football clubs, footballers, and their fans to experience a deeper connection with each other,” said Nicolas Julia, CEO and co-founder of Sorare.

“We believe this is a huge opportunity to create the next sports entertainment giant.”

Since January 2021, there have been $150 million of sales on Sorare, which accepts payments via credit card and the cryptocurrency ether. The most expensive unique card is of Cristiano Ronaldo, which was bought for 245,072 euros ($287,420.44) on March 13.

The fundraising round was SoftBank’s first time investing in Sorare, via its SoftBank Vision Fund 2.

SoftBank’s Latin America fund also contributed, which Combes said was because SoftBank can use its relationships with U.S. and Latin American soccer leagues and its investment in broadcaster Televisa-Univision, to increase Sorare’s user base there.

This is not SoftBank’s first foray into NFTs: it also led investment in the NFT marketplace OpenSea in July and invested in the decentralised finance platform Juggernaut in March.

Other investors in Sorare’s raise include: venture capital firms Accel and Bessemer Ventures as well as the footballers Pique, Ferdinand, France’s Antoine Griezmann and Spain’s Cesar Azpilicueta.
