FEW property lovers outside of Tasmania would claim to know where Winkleigh is — but when this cute-as-a-button property hit the market, they sat up and took notice.

Located in a small rural town west of Launceston, home to a couple of hundred residents, the 1880s-built church at No.1039 Winkleigh Rd had people gasping for breath and blowing up the agent’s phone from the second it hit the market.

In those mere days that it was available to buy, the converted church rocketed up realestate.com.au’s popularity charts to reach No.5 nationwide.

Bushby Creese director George Bushby said the church had been renovated by their vendor in 2016.

“And for the purchaser, it was love at first sight,” he said.

“They travelled for over four hours just to view the property, and had been wanting to buy a Tasmanian church conversion for a long time.”

Mr Bushby said the church had been extremely popular on the market.

“We had over 60 inquiries and over 30 groups through just one open home,” he said.

“It attracted a lot of interstate inquiry, as well as sight-unseen offers.

“The property attracted eight offers and we sold it within five days on the market.”

The renovation blends period features with a modern touch.

The light-filled interior boasts original windows, soaring cathedral ceilings and a beautiful scenic outlook from every room.

The kitchen is centrally located and fitted with a generous island bench and feature pendant lights.

A roomy loft-style bedroom is located on its own level, while the bathroom has been beautifully designed and features a bathtub.

The open plan kitchen, living and dining spaces connect to a north-facing deck.

The home is set on over 1000sq m of land, about 10 minutes’ drive to Exeter or 30 to the Launceston CBD.

Property records show it was first listed at “Offers over $299,000”, before selling for $456,000.
