Cloud9 and HenryG part ways after failed CSGO roster

Date:

Cloud9 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive general manager Henry “HenryG” Greer have officially parted ways.

HenryG is officially out as Cloud9’s CSGO general manager after less than a year spent in the role. The former caster joined Cloud9 in October 2020, instantly making waves in the competitive CSGO community by being the first general manager to publicly release the details of his players’ contracts. Both HenryG and C9 made the announcement on April 5 through their official Twitter accounts.

HenryG out at Cloud9 as organization reevaluates CSGO

HenryG brought his casting persona to C9’s general manager position early on, referring to the team he hand built around former Vitality in-game leader Alex “ALEX” McMeekin as a “juggernaut.” But HenryG’s leadership wasn’t enough to lead Cloud9 to wins or stability in CSGO.

The general manager initially made good progress, managing to snatch up key pieces despite an overwhelming lack of free agent talent when he took over. Unfortunately, that talent never materialized into wins for the organization. Since the latest roster’s formation, Cloud9 had played only 71 maps with a 39% win rate overall.

After just six months, Cloud9 backed out of CSGO completely, announcing that it would reevaluate the game’s competitive landscape in the future. After the announcement on March 26, the team parted ways with a wealth of talent, including ALEX, William “mezii” Merriman, Patrick “es3tag” Hansen, Ricky “floppy” Kemery, and Erick “Xeppaa” Bach.

The writing was on the wall as C9 released its players, and now HenryG has also parted ways with the only North American organization to have hosted a CSGO major trophy.

HenryG was positive in his goodbye tweets, thanking C9 owner Jack Etienne and telling fans that he would take some time off from esports to enjoy the “normality that life has to offer.” After the past several months of struggles, C9’s ex-general manager might need it.
