CDL 2022 Major 1 Qualifiers – Week 3; Day 2 Recap

Date:

Here’s everything that went down in Week 3 Day 2 of Major 1 Qualifiers.

Last night the second day of the final week of qualifiers for Major 1 concluded. With some shock results, here’s everything that went down in last night’s matches.

Florida Mutineers 3-0 Seattle Surge

This match got off to a confusing start with Vivid disconnecting from the game for around 30 seconds before rejoining. However, the map was replayed and Owakening dominated, going 36-27 and putting up a 1.33 K/D. Surge were expected to win this map, with Sib and Pred previously dominating on Bocage.

Florida took a 2-0 series lead through a dominant map from Davpadie, going 8-1 and completely taking over the series. Mutineers won the map 6-1, and took an unexpected 2-0 lead in the series. Owakening continued to dominate in the Control as the Mutineers closed out a 3-0 sweep over Seattle Surge. A 1.35 overall K/D in this series saw Owakening turn it up a notch, and get Florida one of the biggest upsets so far this year.

New York Subliners 3-2 Boston Breach

Boston Breach took a 1-0 series lead with a dominant 250-181 Bocage Hardpoint victory. All Breach players went positive in this map, with Capsidal running the show putting up 35 kills and a 1.67 K/D. The Search and Destroy went the way of the New York Subliners, seeing them tie the series. This came down to the last round, and even though NYSL were outslayed, their innovative strats saw them come away with the victory.

The New York Subliners took a 2-1 lead in the series following multiple offensive round wins on Gavutu Control, taking the map 3-2. Hydra and Crimsix dominated, putting up a 1.52 and 1.57 K/D respectively. For Boston, everyone went negative except for TJHaly who had equal kills and deaths at 27.

Boston replied once again, winning Tuscan Hardpoint 250-198. While they were heavily outslayed in the previous map, it was New York who struggled to chain kills together in this map, resulting in Boston forcing a map five. The final map of this series was all about Hydra as he put up a staggering 17 kills and a 2.43 K/D. Hydra finished the series with a 1.21 K/D and 116 kills, pulling his NYSL team through to a 3-2 victory.

Minnesota ROKKR 3-2 Los Angeles Guerrillas

The Los Angeles Guerrillas took a 1-0 series lead through an exceptionally close 250-241 Bocage Hardpoint. Huke went positive 6 kills, and this was crucial to their victory as LAG are yet to win a Hardpoint when Huke has gone negative. However, Gunless was the real star of the map, putting up 42 kills and a 1.62 K/D.

ROKKR replied in map two, securing a 6-4 Berlin Search and Destroy win. Standy and MajorManiak were the main players in this map, dropping 10 and 9 kills respectively as Minnesota regained control and tied the series. The Guerrillas regained their lead through a 3-2 Control win. With most of their round wins coming through kills, LAG outslayed ROKKR with Asim dropping 40 kills.

The series continued to swing with Minnesota ROKKR winning the next Berlin Hardpoint 250-203. Here, ROKKR outslayed by 12 kills with all LAG players finishing the map negative. ROKKR closed out the series with a 6-2 victory on Bocage Search and Destroy to win the series 3-2. Priestahh and Attach dominated in this map, with a 2.25 and 2.67 K/D respectively.

LA Thieves 3-1 Toronto Ultra

No one expected the Thieves to take this series 3-1 following the sheer dominance of Toronto Ultra in map one. Toronto won the Bocage Hardpoint 250-109, and with Cammy returning from illness last week, he dominated with 32 kills and a 1.68 K/D.

LA Thieves responded with three maps on the bounce, winning the Tuscan Search and Destroy 6-4 with Envoy dropping 10 kills, Tuscan Control 3-2 and Tuscan Hardpoint 250-215. Toronto Ultra’s Bance was the dominant force in this series, putting up 108 kills and a 1.11 overall K/D, leading the lobby. However, it was an overall great performance from the Thieves that saw them defeat Ultra, and claim their spot as one of the best in the League.
