Known for going against the grain and taking the unconventional path, Carey has decades of experience in the global entrepreneurial ecosystem. A career entrepreneur, Carey founded Big Ass Fans in 1999 where he served as Chief Big Ass for 18 years. By taking a more unorthodox approach, he was able to grow the company to nearly $300 million in ARR – and was then able to sell it for $500 million. In doing so, Carey decided to embark on a new adventure – shaking up the VC world. Founded in 2017 and based in Austin, Texas, the firm backs innovative founders who demonstrate a balance of disruption and discipline and who have big dreams to realise.
Carey’s workshop slot is sure to be an interesting one. He’ll be able to give an alternative approach to growing a company, drawing on his own experience as a founder as well as his time building globally successful companies.
