Cannabis Movement Upbeat That Ganja Laws Will Change In 2020

Against the backdrop of what the Cannabis Movement described as a very cordial and positive meeting with the Cabinet of Ministers, the organisation’s Chairman is confident that there will be a change in ganja laws this year.

“I believe that we will, just on that meeting that seems so positive, will get definite change in laws this year, 2020,” Andre de Caires said in a statement to St Lucia Times.

But he explained that until the Cabinet comes to a conclusion, the Cannabis Movement cannot say with certainty what will happen.

“What has to happen now is that Cabinet has to come up with a conclusion and if the conclusion says ‘Go ahead’, we must form another committee,” de Caires told St Lucia Times.

The Cannabis Movement Chairman said that committee will come up with detailed regulations to be incorporated in a bill to be passed in parliament,  outlining matters such as the amount of ganja an individual can have in his possession, cultivation of the crop, taxation, licencing and other matters.

He recalled that the Cabinet of Ministers met on June 5, 2020 to discuss legalising cannabis.

According to de Caires, representatives of Invest Saint Lucia and their legal team, Cannabis Commission Chairman Michael Gordon, Levi Paul Francis of the Iyanola Council for the Advancement of Rastafari (ICAR) and representatives of the Cannabis Movement were present.
