Can CBD Chase Away The Monday Blues?

Date:

Happy Monday, the start of a fresh week and endless opportunities and new adventures.  But, not everyone has the same outlook.  In fact, a study found that, for 81% of employees, Mondays are the most stressful day of the week. And 70% of employees admit to suffering with the Sunday scaries.  The comic strip Garfield has a long running joke about how much he hates Mondays.

But why do we hate Mondays and can cbd take the edge off of the first day of the traditional work week? The answer is maybe, but it is also a start for developing a better outlook.

In general, we consider our days off as our own time giving us control over sleeping, eating and activities. If possible, people try to sleep more and relax.  While this sounds great, it disrupts the week’s sleep pattern, making Sunday night’s “bed routine” a bit harder. Also, must people only set their alarm for the weekend when they have something they planned and want to do, as opposed to the alarm on Monday morning.

The average weekend can include robust eating and drinking, These things take a toll on you physically, which may be why one study found that American women of all ages and locations feel least attractive on Mondays.

CBD is legal, sold at Walmart and Amazon and has a variety of claims.  But can it put you in a better mood for Monday?  The answer is maybe. A chart review of 72 psychiatric patients treated with CBD found reduced anxiety.  Great way to start the week.  But the same study found it did not not improve sleep, a key to a good morning.

A different double-blind study found healthy volunteers administered CBD had little to no change in their emotional reaction to unpleasant images or words, compared to the placebo group. “If it’s a calming drug, it should change their responses to the stimuli,” said Harriet de Wit, co-author of the study and a professor in the University of Chicago’s department of psychiatry and behavioral neuroscience. “But it didn’t.”

There is plenty of anecdotal accounts that cbd relieves anxiety and makes you a bit more relaxed.  While there is still research being done on the what cbd can do in the right dosage, you can try it on your own and see for yourself. We know cbd is not damaging and attempting to change the perception is better than doing nothing.
