Can Augmented Reality Create a New World for Immersive Learning?

Date:

Anthony Phills winner of the 2020 International Design Awards, Silver in Interactive Multimedia category.

Covid19 has presented countless new segments when it comes to learning. From schools to companies and even the arts, the online world has allowed the flexibility to keep life moving without physical interaction. With innovation at the forefront of many new technological alternatives, thinking creatively has become essential to take everyday activities online. As many wishes to return to “normalcy,” advantages such as Augmented Reality (AR) have created a way to still feel just as involved without any health concerns or inconveniences. It may even be a better way to engage in projects and soon replace some ways in how we learn.

After winning silver in the International Design Awards, I aim to use my credible skills in AR to help companies and museums highlight various stories to their audience. As the only inventor pioneering Immersive Learning using Augmented Reality, I want to produce a secondary experience for how people can learn and gain information. With great implementation, it is possible to conduct an AR production for any function for performative tasks. With museums being affected by the pandemic, there is a safe alternative that offers full expression and enrichment that leads to the educational and entertaining fulfillment that museums and other learning companies can provide. In being able to explore the option of AR, there isn’t a total loss of the original framework or the initial impact it has upon view. Through the art of Augmented Reality, there is no loss in translation for what is intended in the piece. As displayed in my UNBREAKABLE installation, I created an AR exhibit featuring the story and 3D sculpture of Cudjo Lewis, who was the second to last known survivor of the Atlantic slave trade between Africa and the United States. The installation is accompanied by a ninety-second audio history of his life and his account of those inhumane moments that shaped our country’s history forever.

With the hope of introducing my journey experience to inner-city communities and around the world, I have a strong belief in the ability of AR to be used as an Immersive Learning tool for children. As the future generation of technology immerges, there will be a need for advanced resources and ways to engage students with different learning opportunities. Those interested can make a difference for the future of Immersed Learning and AR technology by coming to me. I invite you to visit my showcased of my previous works, experiences, tools, and future projects. By supporting this mission, Augmented Reality can be used in ways like never before and positively impact our society in developmental solutions that provide new hope for learning. Learn how you can bring Immersed Learning into a new form of reality and make a difference.
