Building OTA Updates With Sibros On CleanTech Talk

Date:

Over-the-air (OTA) updates have gone from a revolutionary and cutting-edge way to add features and maintenance updates to your car to something that’s simply become expected of new EVs. Today, we’re talking with one of the architects of OTA updates at Tesla, Sibros CEO Mayank Sikaria, on CleanTech Talk.

Mayank was instrumental in the development of the software solutions at Faraday Future, and has gone on to help provide a common language for OTA software updates to communicate with the telematics and ECUs in other OEM vehicles. His product, Sibros, helps get everything talking and playing nicely with the cloud, making it possible for the car to pull the data from the cloud and write to those modules’ firmware … which is great, but there’s a lot more to it.

We also talk quite a bit about data acquisition— and not just engineering data (though that’s part of it), but customer data as well. How does vehicle location data get stored? What about payment portal data? What are some of the privacy concerns surrounding the technology being discussed here, and who do we trust with that data?

Sikaria stays focused on the facts of what the data is capable of, and what sorts of data-mining features can be turned on and off by the OEMs, but that just means they (the manufacturers) can give you some privacy. Will they?

That’s a question for you guys to answer, I think. In the meantime, you can check out this episode of CleanTech Talk— recorded live at the ACT Expo in Long Beach, California— and let us know what you think of Sibros over-the-air software tech in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
