Bixin Ventures Announces $100M Proprietary Capital Fund to Support Global Blockchain Ecosystem

HONG KONG, Oct 22, 2020 – (ACN Newswire) -:  Bixin Ventures has launched a $100 million proprietary capital fund to support the global blockchain ecosystem and infrastructure necessary for the future of open finance through a permissionless and decentralized network.

Bixin Ventures participated as co-lead investor in a strategic round for O(1) Labs, the team incubating Mina Protocol, contributing US$ 2M to the raise, and has invested in projects including Microbit, xDai, Algorand, Nervous, Arweave, Conflux, Certik, and Marlin.

Earlier in 2020, Bixin Ventures announced a $66 million proprietary fund of funds enabling hedge funds and liquidity providers to strengthen the global liquidity framework in Bitcoin markets, with qualifying fund recipients satisfying fully denominated BTC criteria.

Bixin mining operations are currently operating at 300 megawatt-hour capacity, boasting ~3,000 Peta hash per second (PH/s) of computing power, which accounts for roughly 2% of the global Bitcoin network. OKEx, a world-leading cryptocurrency spot and derivatives exchange, has announced a platform-wide discount and rewards program with a total rewards pool that could be estimated in millions of dollars over time. As a way of thanking customers for their loyalty, the Malta-based exchange is now launching a variety of campaigns, including the new Happy Friday giveaway with a staggering weekly distribution of 20% of its total income from futures and perpetual swap transaction fees to all users in BTC starting December. 4, 2020:

  1. A one-time payment: For users who have made deposits, held tokens, or traded during the period between October 16, 2020, and November 26, 2020. OKEx will put 20% of its total income from futures and perpetual swap transaction fees over the last seven weeks into a special fund that will be distributed as a one-time payment to users based on their assets and transaction conditions. For OKB holders, the value of their OKB (in USDT) will be doubled in the asset weight calculation process.
  2. Happy Friday weekly giveaways: Starting December 4, — and continuing every Friday thereafter — OKEx will be rewarding its loyal customer base by distributing 20% of its total income from futures and perpetual swap transaction fees to all users in BTC. Both new and existing customers are eligible and can earn rewards in proportion to the ratio of their total effective assets and trading volume. Users who hold OKEx’s exchange ecosystem token, OKB, will get double the rewards — when calculating total effective assets, the value of OKB will be doubled when converted into USDT.
  3. Fee refunds: For users whose assets exceeded 10,000 USDT before 4:00 pm UTC on November 23, OKEx will issue a commission rebate card valued between a minimum of 100 USDT and a maximum of 1,000 USDT, depending on the user’s net assets. Fee rebates will not affect the payment calculation process for future Happy Friday events.

Ripple Is Cashing Out a Third of Its Stake in Surging MoneyGram

It is its first such sale of MoneyGram stock since the startup invested in the remittance giant in 2019.

Blockchain payments firm Ripple is selling roughly one-third of its stake in MoneyGram, in its first such sale of company stock since the startup invested in the remittance giant in 2019.

According to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Friday, Ripple owns 6.22 million shares of MoneyGram, or 8.6% of shares outstanding, plus a warrant to buy up to another 5.95 million shares, for a total equity position of 12.2 million shares, or 17% of MoneyGram’s shares outstanding.

Ripple is now selling up to 4 million shares, or approximately 33.3% of its entire stake, if you count the shares represented by the warrant. After the sale, Ripple will still own at least 3.22 million shares, or 4.44% of MoneyGram. When including the additional shares represented by the warrant, which gives Ripple the right to execute a stock buy at a predetermined price, the blockchain payments firm will still own about 11% of MoneyGram.

Under the terms of Ripple’s initial investment announce in June 2019, the company bought the shares in MoneyGram at $4.10 apiece, at a significant premium to their price at the time. Shares of MoneyGram have risen more than 260% this year, closing at $7.42 on Wednesday, meaning Ripple is netting a significant profit on its investment.

“Ripple is a proud partner in MoneyGram’s digital growth transformation. This is purely a judicious financial decision to realize some gains on Ripple’s MGI [MoneyGram International] investment and is in no way a reflection of the current state of our partnership,” a Ripple spokesperson told CoinDesk. 

The sales are still in process, according to the spokesperson, who didn’t respond to an emailed question asking what the company intends to do with the proceeds from the stake sale. 

Ripple completed the purchase of a $50 million equity stake in MoneyGram in November 2019.

As recently as the end of Q3 2020, Ripple had paid $9.3 million to MoneyGram, noted as “market development fees” on MoneyGram’s latest financial statement, for the remittance firm’s use of Ripple’s XRP-based settlement network, the On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) network (formerly known as xRapid).

MoneyGram has used this cross-border solution to conduct transactions in Europe, Australia and the Philippines since June 2019, for which Ripple has paid MoneyGram at least $52 million. The remittance firm piloted Ripple’s flagship cryptocurrency in 2018.
