100x Group, the parent company of cryptocurrency exchange and derivative trading platform, BitMex, announced that it has received the esteemed International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) information security certification ISO/IEC 27001.

The ISO is an international standard-setting agency, with members from various countries. The global body is entrusted with the establishment and assessment of standards for a large number of industries. The ISO/IEC 27001 certification provides requirements for the management of information security. It enables the management of security assets such as customer and partner data, which is crucial to the working of top financial services companies.

ISO Certification is Important for BitMex

Alex Höptner, CEO of 100x Group, said:

Traders trust us because of our track record on security – we have never lost a single Satoshi through intrusion or hacking. But security is never a static process and in order to continue to set the bar as high as possible, we sought – and were awarded – one of the most rigorous certifications: ISO/IEC 27001.” 

ISO/IEC 27001 certification is awarded to companies after a rigorous audit of their IT systems. Before certification, companies are required to submit to an exhaustive assessment of security risks including potential threats, vulnerabilities, and impacts of both. For continuous improvement and evolution of the security standards, the examination requires a holistic set of information security controls and risk mitigation procedures, along with the implementation of a complete management process.

Certification Part of Ongoing Effort to Keep Customers Safe

Head of security at 100x Group, Brian Rankin, emphasized that information security is the foundation of his company. He stated:
