With the looming war between China and Taiwan, Apple is shifting its manufacturing strategy and decided to start producing its flagship iPhone 14 in India. The tech giant has been producing iPhones in India since 2017 but they were usually the older models. But this is the first time Apple is manufacturing its latest model in India.

Foxconn, Apple’s main smartphone assembler, will manufacture the devices at its Sriperumbudur factory on the outskirts of Chennai. JP Morgan reported that Apple will shift about 5% of its iPhone 14 production to India later this year, further boosting the manufacturing to 25% by 2025. JP Morgan also said in a note last week that Apple could make one out of four iPhones in India by 2025.

In a statement on Monday, the Cupertino, California-based tech giant also confirmed the report saying, “The new iPhone 14 lineup introduces groundbreaking new technologies and important safety capabilities. We’re excited to be manufacturing iPhone 14 in India.”

Meanwhile, according to Counterpoint Research, Apple has been looking to increase sales in the world’s second-largest smartphone market. The company only had a meager 3.8% market share in India in 2021, while lower-cost competitors such as Samsung and China’s Xiaomicontinue to dominate the market. Manufacturing iPhone 14 in India may help boost the sluggish sale of its flagship phones.

Apple announced the launch of iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max on September 7. The company claimed it is the most advanced Pro lineup ever, featuring the Dynamic Island and A16 Bionic chip.
