Respawn Entertainment announced that it won’t be removing tap-strafing from Apex Legends for a little longer.

“The Apex Legends team has recently discovered some unexpected side effects of our planned changes to tap-strafing,” Respawn said in a tweet. “It is still our intention to address some of the most egregious use-cases of tap-strafing, but for now we are delaying our planned change to a later patch. Movement is sacred in Apex. We weigh every change to these systems carefully and value feedback. After further testing, we’ve concluded we need to take more time to get this right to make sure related movement mechanics aren’t caught in the cross-fire.”

Tap-strafing is a controversial technique in the Apex Legends community. The movement technique makes players have additional movement in the air while shooting. It’s a feature that is only on PC because of an engine feature called “lurch.”

Console players aren’t able to tap-strafe leading to a disagreement between the two factions. Despite the delay, fans should rest easy considering it’s being implemented in good faith. Respawn doesn’t want to unintentionally create issues in Apex Legends, perhaps a new tap-strafing style mechanic, to arise in place of the feature they are trying to alter.

A new date for the tap-strafing change has yet to be announced.
