Amazon partners with the Directorate General Resettlement to hire ex-servicemen

Date:

Amazon India has entered into an agreement with the Directorate General Resettlement (DGR), to offer job opportunities to ex-service personnel, across its growing operations network in the country. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed to this effect.

This agreement will further allow Amazon India to take advantage of the talent and abilities of veterans, who have remained largely untapped. These veterans will be hired to various jobs, including managerial roles across its sort centres, fulfilment centres as well as delivery stations. This agreement has further strengthened Amazon India’s commitment to the Military Veterans Employment programme. It will benefit veterans from the Army, Air force and Navy, as well as their families.

This is also Amazon India’s way of upholding its diversity, equity and inclusivity agenda. It has been the Company’s endeavour to ensure a balanced workforce.

Over the period of five years, the Company hopes to take on about 25,000 military veterans, and offer them opportunities to put their talent to good use.

The director general of DGR also feels that this is the best way to harness the talent and experience of veterans who have a huge potential for growth across industries and businesses. By entering into an agreement with Amazon, more “meaningful career opportunities” can be created for a wide range of ex-servicemen.

The agreement was signed by Liju Thomas, HR director, customer fulfillment and corporate, Amazon India Operations and Maj Gen MK Sagoch, director general, DGR.
