Amazon gears up for second ‘Prime Day’ sale with new product releases

Date:

Amazon has wrapped up an event where the tech giant announced a slate of new tech products, ahead of a big promotional sales push scheduled for mid-October.

The company will release, among other items, the Kindle Scribe, on which users can write, multiple new Fire TV products, four Echo devices, and a new Ring camera.

Amazon released a YouTube video that introduced the company’s 5th generation Echo Dot just after 2 p.m. ET on Wednesday.  The product releases also include smart speakers meant to be used by children, Echo Dot Kids Owl and Echo Dot Kids Dragon.

A statement on the Echo Dot releases notes that there’s now a built-in clock feature and those with the clock include additional sensors that are designed to improve home experiences.

Meet Kindle Scribe, which ‘feels like real paper’

In addition to the statement on the Echo Dot lineup, Amazon released multiple statements on its additional products.  According to a statement about the Kindle Scribe, Kevin Keith, vice president of Amazon Devices, called the product “the best Kindle we’ve ever built, creating a reading and writing experience that feels like real paper.”

According to the statement, the 5.8 mm thin Scribe features a 10.2-inch, 300-ppi, glare-free display with an auto-adjusting front light.  The company’s statement also said that the product maintains “months of battery life” and comes with “a pen that never needs to be charged.”

Fire TV additions

The tech giant also announced updates and upgrades to the Fire TV product line, releasing the Fire TV Cube which Daniel Rausch, vice president of Amazon Entertainment Devices and Services said in a statement is “the fastest, most powerful, and most versatile streaming media player we’ve ever made.”

There’s a feature that enables users to use their voice – paired with Alexa, of course – to find a lost remote.  And the company added a new Fire TV remote as well, known as the Alexa Voice Remote Pro.

The company sales event will take place October 11 and 12 and is called the Prime Early Access Sale, announced by the company in a YouTube video earlier this week.
