SBMM Warzone may be in danger of shutting down, as the site’s administrators say Activision has issued them a threat of legal action if they don’t comply.

Although Warzone uses skill-based matchmaking to fill its lobbies, it doesn’t make that information public via a ranking system. SBMM Warzone attempts to solve that problem by scraping Activision’s API (Application Programming Interface) to show players the skill level of the players in the lobbies they join, giving them a sense of the players they’re up against in their Warzone matches.

The problem is Activision only allows its partners to use its API, and SBMM Warzone has failed to make it into the partner program thus far despite, it says, multiple requests. The site is now throwing a Hail Mary, making one last attempt to become an Activision partner. If it fails to do so by Monday, SBMM Warzone says Activision will pursue legal retribution.

Activision has yet to respond to SBMM Warzone’s pleas.
