In a fatal terrorist attack held at Abu Dhabi’s new International Airport on Monday, one Pakistani and two Indian nationals were killed, and six others were injured. Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement has taken responsibility for the suspected drone-based attack on the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The drones targeted three fuel-carrying tanks at the new Abu Dhabi Airport. Three oil tankers caught fire and exploded, and a fire broke out at the building site of the UAE’s new airport. Besides, fuel tanker trucks burst near ADNOC storage facilities in Musaffah’s industrial district. UAE police reported two big fires after the incident.
In response to the attack near Abu Dhabi airport, United Arab Emirates said they reserve the right to respond to these terrorist attacks. “UAE reserves the right to respond to these terrorist attacks and criminal escalation, describing them as crimes committed in flagrant violation of international law,” Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
In an official statement released, Zayed Al Nahyan said that it is regrettable for the Houthi militia to target civilian areas and facilities on UAE soil. He said that UAE would reiterate those responsible for this unlawful targeting of the country, and they will be held accountable.
UN Calls for Caution and Asks to Avoid Violence
The Indian Embassy in the UAE has informed that it is in close touch with the concerned UAE authorities. “UAE authorities have informed that the explosion at Mussafah, near ADNOC’s storage tanks, has led to three casualties, including two Indian nationals. The Mission @IndembAbuDhabi is in close touch with concerned UAE authorities for further details,” the Indian Embassy in UAE tweeted.
The United Arab Emirates has urged the international community to denounce and reject terrorist attacks that target individuals and public infrastructure. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation also expressed its sympathies to the deceased families and wished the injured victim a speedy recovery. In the meantime, UAE officials have launched a thorough investigation into the cause of the incident.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has also condemned the purported drone attacks in Abu Dhabi. As the Middle East situation worsens, Antonio Guterres issued a statement urging all responsible parties to exercise the utmost caution and avoid violence.
