New Airport

The capital of Arunachal Pradesh will soon receive an airport. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is building a Greenfield Airport at Hollongi, about 15 kilometres from the state capital of Itanagar. The project, which is anticipated to cost Rs 645 crore, would encompass different development works such as airport pavement construction, terminal building construction, air side work, and city side work. The proposed Greenfield Airport in Hollongi is built for A-320 aircraft operations, with a 500-meter runway expansion planned in the future to accommodate A-321 aircraft. According to an ANI report, the airport’s terminal building would be 4100 square metres in size and would be able to handle 200 passengers during peak hours.

The terminal will contain eight check-in desks as well as all of the latest passenger amenities. The development work is in full motion, according to the report, with over 80% of the airside works finished. The construction of the new Interim Terminal building is 30 percent complete. On August 15, 2022, the airport in Hollongi is scheduled to open. The airport terminal will be energy efficient, including a Rain Water Harvesting system and a green landscaping. The development work also involves the building of an ATC Tower, a Technical Block, a Medical Center, a Fire Station, and other auxiliary facilities.

The surrounding landscapes have an impact on the building’s exterior. The airport’s roof has an organic shape that creates an instant connection with the spectator. The building’s interior is meant to give fliers a sense of serenity by providing free-flowing areas, a concealed service core, and a glass facade. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasised the development of modern infrastructure in the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh in order to convert it into a key gateway to Southeast Asia, according to the article.
