A home where kangaroos and deer graze on the front lawn

Date:

Imagine eating dinner as kangaroos and deer graze on your front lawn. That’s what’s on offer at 223 Pole Road, Ironbank, a home Richard and Angely Bolzon bought late 2017 and have since given it a spectacular renovation.

“We’ve got four children and were looking for a change and just wanted to get out of the city for a bit and get a taste of that Hills lifestyle – we’d always wanted to do it, so we did it,” Mr Bolzon says.

“Nothing had been done to it in about 25 years, so we lived in it for six to eight months before we started putting pen to paper and then we started on it and just went for it. It looks nothing like it did when we bought it, we’ve changed every single room in the house. It was already an architecturally-designed home, so we didn’t want to alter it too much from how the original designer wanted to keep the place, but we wanted to keep that mid-century theme going and retain those natural elements – the tones, the timbers, the stone, all those kinds of things – throughout the house. My wife has an eye for detail and colour schemes which was a big help in the design of this place.

“A lot of homes in the Hills are on a main road, but we like that this was off the beaten track. We came up into the hills to get away from everything, and we’ve got our own little haven here where we can escape the hustle and bustle. We’re a couple hundred metres off the main road in a stringybark forest surrounded by blue wrens, and kangaroos and deer that graze on our front yard every single night while we have dinner.”

The home features five bedrooms, three bathrooms, numerous indoor and outdoor entertainment areas, quality materials throughout and sits on a 4ha allotment close to a range of great amenities and activities.

“We do heaps of walking, Belair’s just down the road, we’re in Stirling on Sundays for coffee and the markets, and I do a lot of running and cycling, so it’s been great,” Mr Bolzon says. “It’s also amazing for entertaining. About five weeks ago we had a big family do up there for the last time to farewell the home and we had at least 50 people there and it was awesome.”

“It would be great for people who love working from home, those who want that Hills life, and any family really because their kids can grow up in a great environment. It’s going to be really sad to say goodbye, but we’re now really excited to embark on a new project in Beaumont.”
