After pilots received a smoke indication warning, a Qatar Airways Airbus A350-900 plane had to make an emergency landing on Monday. The flight was scheduled to fly between Delhi and Doha, but owing to the severity of the warning, it was forced to divert to Pakistan. Fortunately, everyone onboard was safe, and a new plane was sent to transport the passengers to Doha. Flight QR-579 connects Delhi and Doha on a regular basis, departing at 3:40 a.m. local time. For this route, the airline operates an Airbus A350-900 aircraft. At 4:13 a.m. on Monday, the plane took off over half an hour late. The plane in issue has the registration A7-ALZ and a one world livery. The A350 reached its cruising altitude of 40,000 feet just short of the India-Pakistan border, and maintained over for an hour until beginning its descent roughly 160NM northwest of the Pakistani port city of Karachi, according to flight tracking app Flightradar24. The crew received a cargo smoke signal and declared an emergency, as stated. Then after, the plane was spotted heading south towards Karachi, where it landed safely about half an hour later. Passengers were swiftly evacuated and transferred to the terminal when the plane came to a halt on the runway. In a statement, Qatar Airways said, “Qatar Airways flight QR579 from Delhi to Doha on March 21 diverted to Karachi having declared an emergency due to the indication of smoke detected in the cargo hold. The aircraft landed safely at Karachi where it was met by emergency services and passengers disembarked orderly via stairs.” The runway had to be closed for over 2.5 hours as emergency officials examined the situation. Some flights, such as SriLankan Airlines’ UL-183 from Colombo to Karachi, had to wait for approval to land.
