Independent game studio 9 Lives Interactive has secured a $3 million funding round, led by Mechanism Capital. The funding will fuel the development of their inaugural title, Nyan Heroes, a hero shooter game featuring innovative gameplay mechanics and a cat-themed intellectual property aimed at widespread adoption.

$3 Million to Support Global Launch

According to the media release, 9 Lives Interactive also received investments from Sfermion, 3Commas Capital, and Momentum 6. Further backing is provided by Kosmos Ventures, Devmons GG, and CSP DAO.

Max Fu, the Creative Director and CEO of 9 Lives Interactive stated that their objective is to develop a flagship IP-driven shooter, aiming to provide an immersive experience for team-based shooter enthusiasts of all ages and genders. 

“We grew up playing shooter games, and we believe that this is the next evolution, where cute cat heroes give this genre mass appeal, which will lead to both Web2 and Web3 player adoption,” Fu stated.

On the other hand, Andrew Kang from Mechanism expressed excitement about leading an investment round for Nyan Heroes, emphasizing its potential to set new standards for web3 shooters. 

“The creativity of the IP and the unique gameplay mechanics are what we believe sets it apart from other projects not just in web3 but also the traditional gaming space. Max and his team have shown incredible resilience and commitment during the bear and we’re excited to double down on the team’s ability to execute their vision,” Kang said in a statement.

9 Lives Interactive 

Established in 2021, the media release noted that the team at 9 Lives Interactive consists of seasoned professionals from top-tier studios such as EA, Bungie, and Ubisoft. Additionally, the team benefits from senior advisors hailing from Riot Games and Twitch. 

The firm have a track record of creating, launching, and maintaining AAA multiplayer shooter and live service titles—including renowned franchises like Halo, Destiny, Fortnite, Marvel’s Avengers, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six—the team brings extensive experience and expertise to their projects.

Nyan Heroes

Nyan Heroes is a team-based hero-shooter where players control quirky cats piloting powerful mechs in competitive battles to save the world. 

With 8 guardian classes to choose from, players utilize unique abilities and agile, feline-inspired movements to secure objectives and defeat opponents. The game features highly customizable mechs through an “augment weapon” system, offering diverse play styles and opportunities for skill expression. 

As per the media release, the game is currently in pre-alpha and has garnered a substantial social following and over 11,000 signups for early access. Early access is available from March 26th to April 9th on the Epic Games Store, where players can also wishlist the game. 

Additionally, the Nyan Heroes also feature Airdrop missions allowing players to access NYAN tokens, powering the Nyan Heroes Ecosystem.
